The ' marker ' on my line should be removed by tomorrow ( according to BT ) and so I'll be free to move to another isp.
I'm thinking about going to idnet, principally because the forums are full of good things about them and their technical support are in the UK.
I was just wondering which isp's people have moved to and if they are happy with their choices.
( If anyone has moved to idnet, is it better to get the home 2000 thing or the maxadsl ? )
Thks
I moved to Zen. Since the move I have had no problems and am getting much faster speed. They also have Usenet groups. I only spoke to Zen customer support twice as part of setting up the switch (Zen accept LLU MACs); they were extremely helpful and made relevant suggesions. It was obvious that the people knew what they were talking about and definitely weren't just reading from a script.
So, yes I am very happy to have switched to Zen.
It didn't stop my hassles with Orange as I had great difficulty stopping them "taking" my money (I stupidly had let them take it from a credit card) and then getting them to return the money they'd "taken". They lied as much about refunding me as they had about fixing my broadband connection.
thanks for the info. it seems a toss-up between idnet or zen at the moment....
*edit* forgot to ask - are you on this adslmax thing ? is it faster than the normal 2 meg service ? ( obviously i know it depends on your exchange and a few other variables ).
It took exactly one week to have my Orange marker removed and a further ten days for Sky to be activated. I was expecting two weeks for each step, so 2.5 weeks instead of 4 was a bonus.
Since I've been on Sky, the speeds I get have been much better than I was getting with Orange (when it rarely worked) although it does tend to drop out in the evenings. A reboot of the router usually solves this though.
I'm getting about 4.5 - 5 Mb down and 0.7 up which is about as good as I could expect given the distance I am from the exchange.
It's a Netgear router they give you (no rental agreement), and much much better than the waste of space they call the Livebox!
Points to note: you must be a Sky subscriber to get the best deals and your exchange needs to be Easynet enabled (a lot are). Also, there is a waiting list after you've registered your interest but I've no idea how long it is.
thanks - I have registered on the Sky website for that ( I am a Sky subscriber ). Where is their tech support though. I'm really wary though of havign a problem and going half way round the world to a tech centre who don't really understand your issue and just read off a script.

Hi there Alex
Good choice, if you havn't already check out the unofficial IDNetters forum along with the one on adslguide uk. a wealth of info and questions answered.
My original choice was between Zen Xifos and IDNet all have the same reputation in the ratings but the latter got back to me first.
Good Luck with your new ISP
btw as a matter of interest what router have you gone for? i use the SpeedTouch 585v6
Regards

With regards to the modem i chose the Thomson Speedtouch 585.
I currently have a Belkin wireless one but ever since Orange switched me over to LLU and the broadband connection dropped I have been unable to connect to the Belkin. My laptop picks up the wireless connection but when I enter the 192.168 blah blah blah i just get a page cannot be displayed. I tried to reset it but that didn't work. I took my laptop to a friend of mine who also has a belkin and it can connect to that one fine. I've got an old speedtouch modem that i was sent by wanadoo that should still work fine.
I thought it would be useful if i picked a modem that idnet sells and therefore can support properly should I have a problem with it.
