I got my livebox a few days ago, but setting it up has been a nightmare!
What happens is: each time i try to install the "Livebox setup cd" a message comes - "Launching Livebox Installation" after which there is a blank screen and nothing loads up. There should be a welcome screen with the options to install like this - http://kbdocs.orange.co.uk/cs/...stall2.gif but instead its just frozen
I right clicked on it and it says movie not loaded. I should point out that my flash player is upto date(version 9 installed). Anyway I thought something might be wrong with the cd, so i downloaded a Livebox Install ISO, but the same thing happens again. I tried using the disc on another computer but everything runs fine.
I think it may be something to do with my computer - I use Packard Bell IMEDIA 5093 and think mabe i need a patch, because when i installed the speedtouch modem, i needed to install a patch for that. I rang Orange helpline, but they dont have clue. If anyone knows what i should do please let me know! Also is there a way of just installing it without using the cd. That would be a great help!
Cheers
As far as I know there isn't any patches needed for the livebox install system. Though from what you've done there's obviously some incompatability on that system.
What connection are you trying to installed, wired or wireless? If wireless what adapter are you using?
If it's wired plug the ethernet cable in, try to open 192.168.1.1 in Internet explorer, click the link, username and password by default are both "admin", go into Services > Internet Connection, enter your Orange username and password, click validate and all being well you should then be connected and ready to go.
For wireless it's the same process but getting the connection requires a little more work sometimes.
Well...I was going to install wired first and then go wirless as they recommended, but basically the Livebox installation disc does not even load up on my computer, thats the main problem.
one of my friends has an older installation software and its branded as wanadoo(as it was back then), that loads up so i'll try to install it with that later. What I dont understand is why the Orange installation disc not load up.
Also, is the disc absolutly essential? can i just download the drivers and files from somwherelse without having to install it?
Anyway, when(or if) i do go wireless, i'll be using SpeedTouch 121g(i think thats what its called) but I havent got that far yet.
The install cd isn't required. It just simplifies entering the username and password into the box. If you do as I described before that should setup a wired connection without the cd.
If you bought the adapter from Orange then it'll come with another install cd especially for it, you can however just download and install the basic drivers for it instead which do practically the same job.

Cheers for your help mate, I apreciate your help. it worked wonders! All I need now is the talk service they promised......Do you know how long it takes for them to activate the talk service, its been over 10 days now. bah anyway, i'm just so happy the internet is up and running.
Cheers once again!
How long has the livebox been connected, as in the solid @ light?
If it's been several days you can either call or email Orange to try a manual activation, if so they'll need the S/N and MAC numbers from the livebox itself.
yep, ive contacted them - said the talk service will be up soon.
one thing that happens with internet connection is that it stops working if i click on wmv files after a few minutes, the media player loadsup and I can watch a few minutes of it after which it says its buffering and stays like that and at the same time no web pages load either eventho it shows that its connected.
However, i can watch it just fine if i save it to my hardrive
I then have to restart the connection.
the connection does not get effected if i'm just browsing - just when i watch videos(wmv files).
am i doing anything wrong? maybe theres some settings i can configure.
Theres no particular settings that would do that. Sounds almost like some error media player is causing due to the stream if everything works fine with saving files.

Hello again. i've been a bit busy recently what with the moving houses and everything and since then have unistalled and reinstalled again.
I've discovered that the connection drops out if I try to download files for a long time. for example, I am downloading a music audio/video e.t.c. the filesize is quite big, lets say 100mb. natuarally it'll take awhile to download. so whilst downloading it the connection will dropout in the middle (or even more painfully towards the end), even though the icon shows its still connected.
its fixed when i 'repair' it but its a pain in the neck because i have to restart the download.
Hmm, sounds like somethings going wrong with the LAN connection if repairing it fixes it. Could be the motherboard/card drivers need updating, some problem with TCP/IP or even a problem with the livebox itself. It can be hard to diagnose the exact cause easily.
When you lose conneciton but before repairing go into network connections and right click the LAN connection, select status. Whats it show for the status, then check the support tab and make a note of the address type and IP it's showing at the time.
