As far as I am aware we have quite a good phone Line, we are less than 1km from phone exchange, on same road heres some stats : ADSL
Type Interleave Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps)
22247Kb 1257Kb
Noise Margin
3 6
Output power(dBm)
113 162
Attenuation(dB)
20 7
When we first got upgraded to ADSL2+ we was on fastpath and on speedtest.net we'd quite often get just over 20mbps sometimes 21, but (I think this is the main reason?), we seem to get quite a few power cuts, I think there must be a problem with an electrical socket as the ring main can trip out quite often, It tripped 3 times in one day, yet other times you can go a few months, and now the noise margin has dropped to 3db and the sync rate you see above is about the fastest I can get no matter what. I recently purchased some Adsl nation pro+ rj11 cable and a filtered faceplate, and I'm certain these are the best you can get, and the upstream attenuation dropped from 8db to 7db, but do I need to contact Orange to get put back to fastpath and get noise margin increased? or is a lower margin actually better? There seems to be a bit of confusion, reading through several sites. The only thing I know for sure is 6db is the standard target, and it seems if it goes lower, this can improve sync speed, but if it's too low you can get more connection errors? But It seems the frequent power cuts are stopping us from going back to fastpath, so can I just contact Orange and ask them to put us back?
