i am trying to forward mail going to my wanadoo account on to my blackberry (an o2 (now Sky) account) but when i try to do so, i do not know wanadoo's fully qualified email server name. can anyone help?
if using another ISP to connect (ie other than Orange), you will need the settings from THAT ISP, Orange does not permit SMTP relay, ie connecting using a different ISP to send emails using Oranges' outgoing server. Most ISP's dont allow this to control spam.
probably shouldnt be on thsi techie page ! so what does all that mean? when i go into the o2 (now Sky) website to add the wanadoo account info (so that my wanadoo mail goes automatically to my 02 blacberry, it asks for this info. what do i provide? i have added my hotmail account without any problems so why with wanadoo. help !!!!!!
OK, sorry, if I was not clear earlier. What happens is that
1) when using Hotmail, you are using a HTTP server (not POP). This means that you are simply loading a Web page
2) When you are using other servers, you need 2 settings ie one for incoming and the other for outgoing emails.
Now, companies do not bother what comes into your PC, what they are bothered is what goes OUT of your PC (since it can be virus, spam etc..) So Orange will not allow its server to SEND messages if you connected with, say, Bulldog or o2 (now Sky). To be able to send the message, you will need the outgoing server name of the ISP through which you CONNECT to the internet.

sorry - last time i test yr patience. i go into the o2 (now Sky) internet site. i click on add account so that my wanadoo emailscome aoutomatically onto my blackberry.
it asks me to fill in my email address (no problem); my User name (no problem) and my password (no problem). It then asks me to insert the Email Server and the explanatory note says "the fully qualified name of the mail server at ISP - for example the mail server for earthlink is mail.earthlink.net". So, should i put in the o2 (now Sky) info - i guess it will be mail.o2 (now Sky).net or something like that ?
Yes, it will be something like abc@o2 (now Sky).com (just an example).... No need to apologse, I love to help whenevr I can

Hi Giles,
I don't use a BlackBerry myself (maybe someone who does could comment) so I'm not 100% on this.
But I think you can't forward orange email directly to your BlackBerry. You would need to use your o2 (now Sky) or Hotmail email address for this. You can however check your Orange email. The server you want is pop.orangehome.co.uk
