I done this a while back and my download connection speed increased by 50%, there was also a slight improvement in upload speed too.
Recently I done the same for a neighbour on his Sky BB and the increase was almost 100%
If you have no old pulse dial telephones connected to your phone line and at least 1 slave phone socket in your home try this;
Make a note of your routers connection speeds etc from the routers config menu then unplug your router and find your master phone socket, the master socket should be the first connection in the house from BT and slave wiring will be fed from this (the master socket has a few components on the circuit board, slaves just have connectors).
Disconnect the wire(s) from terminal 3 of the master socket, this wire is used for bell suppression on older pulse dial phones with bells which I doubt many people have these days.
Refit the wallplate and your done.
Power up your router and see if your connection speed has improved, it may take a few days or weeks for your line to retrain and leaving the router off if your not using it will probably quicken the process.
This is pretty much what the BT accelerator does but this way you can do it for free and you can use a slave socket to plug your router into.
And if you disconnect terminal 3 from all the extension boxes you may even improve it again.
If no. 3 is disconnected from the NTE5 faceplate but is still making a connection elsewhere, i.e extension boxes, then it continues to act as an aerial, picking up interference.
