Hello everyone, I've managed to get my Livebox working under Windows Vista (RTM) so I can get some free phonecalls etc, without the need for the Orange install disk
I was previously using a Belkin 7632 wireless router, connected via Cat5 lead to my main pc on the up to 8mb BB package. When I connected using PPPoA encapsulation I could only get a maximum of 2.2mb connection speed (on Speedtest.net)
When I changed the encapsulation to PPPoE, I could suddenly connect at a much higher speed (5-6mbs) and this was confirmed when doing various speedtests.
Now, with my Livebox, it seems that the encapsulation is locked on PPPoA, and even though the Livebox reports fast speeds (see screenshot below) I can not get past 2.5mb on http://www.speedtest.net/index.php, whatever the time of day.
You have a Livebox that works? if I were you I would put it on E-Bay must be worth a fortune, mines not worked since 1st September, never has and after the run around Orange is giving me I'm sure the dam thing only contains flashing lights.......
Through my hacking skills i've managed to find a hidden menu with the livebox for changing the encapsulation to PPPoE (much faster internet)
Before I continue, I must say this is damn cheeky of Orange, as this menu is hidden. If anyone who's running a livebox with an up to 8mb service, click the link in my first post at the top of the page and check what speed your getting, I can guarantee it won't be more than 2200kbs.
I smell a conspiracy by Orange to hook people with the promise of fast speeds, then supply a livebox that will restrict your speed to 2.2mbs. That way, the network doesn't get overloaded, but everyone thinks their getting fast speeds. What a joke!!!!
Ok, how to change it....
First click the following link http://192.168.1.1/adsl.html then type the username and password as admin and admin, click ok or enter depending on your browser.
Then select PPPoE as the encapsulation method and click submit. You will then be taken to another screen:- DON'T DO OR PRESS ANYTHING ON THIS ONE!!!
Close the browswer page and re-open it and go to http://192.168.1.1/index2.html and click disconnect. When the internet has disconnected, reconnect again on the same screen.
Close the browser window, you are now on PPPoE and getting the fastest speed possible.
Any Orange TS or CS here want to comment on this matter, it would make interesting reading

Hi PocketRocket
Thank you for the above contribution...
However....

Seriously dude stop misleading people if the above arent as they should be the user wont connect,
To access PPPoE on your wireless you must first connect go into Properties on wireless network highlight Livebox and select properties. Its a standard diagnostic of connections, this isnt something new
Oh also how is this cheeky of us? since when did we make Windows??! Blame them for the so called hidden (but really easy to find) menu
You do know i'm talking about changing to PPPoE on the adsl(Wan) side to improve connection speed don't you? I'm not talking about the ethernet/WiFi (Lan) side dude

Hi,
Do you mean you found it via google?
I did.

Did this a while ago but couldn't get the Livebox to keep the setting after a reboot. Didn't notice any speed difference - I'm on fixed speed IPstream.
Regards.
P.S. Did you find the other hidden pages?

Re hidden pages, you mean like test info etc? Then the answers yes!
If your on IPstream then this is not going to improve your speed.
I haven't had reason to reboot the livebox yet (tempting fate or what ) but I assume i'll have to manually select PPPoE again.
BTW, i'm not using the Orange/Inventel software at all, i'm just using the livebox as a router with just a Cat5 between it and the PC (Vista RTM build 6000) and a Belkin PCMCIA card in my laptop (Which works fine btw)
The Orange CD contains no setup software only drivers for the Speed Touch 121g wireless adapter and the Wanadoo CD contains the drivers for the Inventel adapter,
The Orange CD is only a way of making the input of the username and password and setup easier for users how arent computer literate, the Livebox is an independent router with its own configuration pages thus needs no drivers or software.

Lets clear this up slightly as you're close but not quite there with the cd info.
There are 3 CD's.
1. Old Wanadoo CD.
Contains the Inventel wireless drivers, the username and password entry software, USB drivers for livebox connection and the USB drivers for recovery. It's worth noting the firmware included on that CD doesn't work.
2. Orange Livebox CD.
Similar to the above, username and password entry software, USB drivers for connection and recovery, ethernet recovery software and a usable version of the firmware.
3. Orange Speedtouch 121g software.
Has the speedtouch 121g drivers but also goes through an Orange program to try and simplify connecting to the livebox.
Please do not undertake the above unless you are absolutley sure that you know what you are changing!

Hi,
IMO this is perfectly safe, I've done it several times without problems.
Regards.
