I am having problems with my Orange broadband speed going up and down.
I have been in touch with Orange but did not get very far apart from having the router resest by Orange and doing a speed test over 36 hours as requested which on the third phone call was almost ignored.
They came up with a solution saying that it is not a speed issue but a synchronisation issue. No solution.
During the speed test the speed ranged from2400 to 111 to 2191 to 784 to 2445 to 900 to 2582 to 900 to 2172 etc. When the speed does drop it generally drops the connection as well.
Can anyone shine any light on this problem please.
Yep, exactly the same. Orange got as far as promising to 'send an engineer out'. Out where? Not anyway near me I guess.
I posted this on another thread.
My 'improving the service' email came on the 1st April and broadband download reliability has got worse ever since. I've had a lot of conversations with Orange but little action Strangely the upload speed never changes, despite download fluctuating randomly between 1.6 and zero.
In the Livebox system info ADSL data downstream rate is consistently around 2400 and upstream stays at around 740.
Is this a similar problem to yours?

In my case 0range switched me from a 20meg service where I'd connect at 15meg to a BT service at 8meg with highly variable speeds depending on the time of day.
It depends what equipment BT have in your exchange as to what you get out of the switch to using BT's network.
Go to BT's speedtest site - http://speedtester.BT.com/ - and follow the instructions & post back the full results.

Hello
I have contacted BT and found someone that was very helpful and they have confirmed there is a problem at my local exchange. They hope to have it fixed within Three days.
Hello
Well the fault was recorded at last on their web sight under my account.I was also told that an engineer would contact me within 48hrs. No one has rang. The fault has now gone off the web sight saying that no fault is recorded.
Guess what the speed dropped last night to 8kbps it has now recovered to 256kbps.
I am considering going elsewhere for my internet but on the other hand why should they be able to get away with such a very poor service.
