Thunderbird took it upon itself to automatically perform an update, now I get the following on my screen:
The proxy server is refusing connections. The connection was refused when attempting to contact the proxy server you have configured. Please check your proxy settings and try again.
I know a proxy server is usually configured automatically by the ISP. I have checked if the proxy server is configured in TB itself:
Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Connection > Settings
It says 'Use system proxy setting' so it should automatically configured proxy, set by the ISP.
If I cantact Orange I know there response - long silent gap and the "we do not support Mozilla Thunderbird, only Microsoft and so can not help you".
Saying that I do appear to be receiving e-mails, but any advice welcome.
