Mac requested. Once it comes I'm going to BT (no LLU here so I might as well deal with the organ grinder) as I want to use my new HTC Wildfire while out & about. You can'free' BT FON/Openzone wifi as many Home Hubs default to providing 512 kbps available for other BT users.
Orange don't do a package that includes what I want any more . 90% of my 'free' 2nd line calls will be covered by going to BT Anytime and I have read that 2nd line may be closing so I am GOING!
Let us know when you jump that sinking ship known as <a href="http://www.maccodes.co.uk" target="MAC">Orange</a>
Mac arrived by e-mail when I went on after work this evening. It'll be Good Morning BT later today
Just out of curiousity, I looked up partner FON providers to BT and one I found was Orange (France). Somehow I just don't think Orange's UK operation seems to be as polished as their Gallic brethren. As soon as I gave an unmatchable reason to leave, the poor lady in retentions agreed that Orange could not provide an equivalent service that gave anything similar to BT Openzone/FON and didn't attempt to dissuade me from then on
The deed is done. I spoke to a very helpful chap at BT at 0800 this morning and have got it all arranged and things should migrate on the 7th of January.
I have noticed that I am already NOT having problems with websites loading in the early evening. It's all subjective but ping times have reduced to 29 ms (pingtest.net) from mid 40s+. Speed seems also to hold up at peak times compared with before.
