I am writing in the hope that someone can offer me help and advice with the continuing and ongoing issue I have with Orange Broadband.
I have a contract phone with Orange and as such I make use of the unlimited broadband internet package which I pay £5 per month for. Nobody else can beat this price.
When I lived at my old house, I had no problems with my broadband, and achieved 7Mbps all the time.
I then moved into my new house which is less than 2 miles from the exchange. All was well for the first year when I also achieved 7Mbps all the time until one day I noticed that youtube videos were buffering all the time and would not play properly. A speed check showed I was getting 200 – 250Kbps and my livebox was synching at 600kbps.
Orange technical Support did the usual flow chart testing procedure which resulted in no change to my speed until after days of calls and pointless tests, I was told to there was a fault with my line and that my line was going to be monitored and to wait 7 days and it should resolve itself. 3 weeks later it did return to normal.
3 weeks ago the same thing happened.
My livebox showed maximum attainable speed at 666Kbps (it was 7100kbps) and my download was 512Kbps.
Every time I do a speedtest the maximum I can get at a download is 0.03Mbps!! It takes a million years to open ebay and sometimes my email times out.
Orange told me the maximum speed on my line is 512Kbps, when I told them I was getting 7Mbps 3 weeks ago he then told me the maximum speed on my line was 7.5Mbps. He didn’t have a clue. Yet again Orange say there is a fault on the line and that they will monitor it. Since my call, the synch speed on my livebox has gone back to 7134Mbps yet any speed test I do results in anything from 0.01 to 1Mbps.
Interestingly the dials on the test fluctuate from 0 to 1Nbps and back to 0.5 and back to 1.5Mbps, they are never constant.
I have tried a BT line check myself and it states the line is good. I can book an engineer but will have to pay the fee if it’s not a problem with them. The noise on my livebox shows 8.0dB down and 21dB up.
Orange are blaming BT and saying the engineers are working on it? BT say that there is no fault on my line.
What can I do to resolve this? Virgin are looking very attractive right now!
