Hi There,
I have just purchased Dell Inspirion 6000 and 1300 laptops and am looking to connect them to the Livebox. I followed the instructions as provided by Orange and managed to connect the 6000 to the router with a cable. The next stage was to connect wireless, again I followed the instructions and got the laptop talking wireless to the router and it accepted the WEP key, however all I get is ‘limited or no connection’ message coming up. Something about an invalid ISP address being returned or connection established but some of the functions may or may not work.
When I tried connecting the 1300 it worked straight away once I changed the setting to let windows manage the wireless connection. Also just out of interest I tried my works laptop, a Dell Latitude D600 and again that worked first time without changing anything.
I'm not to technically up on PC's, mainly know how to use software, so any simple guidance on what to do would be very much appreichated.
Regards
Neil
It's probably best to let windows manage the connection 6000 as well if it's not already. The message you go was probably about the IP address. If you right click the wireless connection within Network connections and select repair this may help sort things out. If not do you know if that adapter supports WEP and WPA security or just WEP?
Hi there just thought I would let everyone know that it working …….
After reading thorough all the posts on this forum about wireless connection I did the following:
Changed the channel from 1 to 7 and tried it… it made a difference but it would just carry on trying to obtain an IP address. So the next thing I did was to change the channel from 7 to 12 and also set it to WAP only. Then after about two minutes I got a connection…. At first I was a bit apprehensive as I still had the cable attached.. so it was fingers crossed and remove cable… it stayed connected….
Thanks to all of those that have placed advice on this forum, if it wasn’t for places it like this I think I would be still be on the phone to the so called technical help line.
Thanks again…..
Click start then run,
type "services.msc" press ok,
scroll down the list and look for "Wireless Zero Configuration",
double click it and click the "Start" button on the window,
Ok it and then close the services list.
Windows should now run the wireless which you should be able to access by going to network connections, right click your wireless and selecting view available networks.
