I've got through Three Inventel Live boxes in a many months. I can't believe that they are all faulty. Yet I keep getting the same problems with the boxes running *very* slowly and dropping the internet to any PC's connected via the LAN.
My current box arrived today, and the symptoms are typical.
Basically at 5pm today I configured the new livebox with my user name and password. My main desktop PC is connected via two gigabit Netgear switches to the livebox via Cat6 cabling.
A few minutes ago, the system tray network icon on my Windows 7 desktop PC displayed a yellow ! mark, and indicated that I was still connected to the "Livebox-7210" but without internet access.
The laptops in my home were still connected to the Livebox via WiFi and could happily browse the Internet.
Attempting to talk to the LiveBox home page (192.168.1.1) was not possible via the LAN cable.
On my desktop PC I could still access my NAS devices. Plugging a WiFi card in my desktop PC allowed me to get a connection to the LiveBox and get out onto the internet. I was then also able to get the router home page, but navigation was *very* slow.
So I pulled the plug on the router and then powered it back on. I'm now back on-line using the LAN cable.
However it will only be a matter of time before the connection via LAN drops again.
My home network contains the following, two gigabit switches, Three desktop PC's, two connected via Ethernet into the switches, one desktop PC is Wifi. I have can have up to five laptops all connected via Wifi. I also have Three NAS boxes. The NAS boxes, laptop and desktop PC's have been set to DHCP.
Can anyone suggest what would cause the Ethernet port to fail, and the livebox run slowly?
I'm almost getting to the point where by I have the router on a timer to power it down in the middle of the night to reset it.
I can go weeks with the Internet being rock solid. I'll then go through a period of about a week where I lose the Internet connection once or twice a day. I have to power off/on the Livebox to get it back. Interestingly, the VOIP connection carries on working. After a few days of having this problem, I can then go weeks without seeing it again.
All of my computers attach to an Apple Time Capsule (some by wifi and some by Ethernet cable) which then connects to the Livebox by LAN cable.
I wonder if there is a problem between the Livebox and the Orange DNS?
Yesterday I reported the problem to Orange and they are sending me a new Livebox.
