Here's the quick version of my story. I've been with Orange mobile since about 1998 and found them pretty good. I took the option of 'free' broadband when they took over wannado and it wasn't too bad. Not mega fast but ok.
Then about a year ago we started having the dreaded intermittent faults. Weird. It's like it takes forever to wake up and get going in the morning. But when it gets up to speed it's usually ok until we hit peak time in the evening, then it starts grinding to a halt again. Some days are good, some days are awful. It's like living with a teenager.
I made the mistake of trying to upgrade my Orange broadband - home max with the livebox. That was last Feb time and since then I'm onto them ever few weeks to find out why my speeds have gone crazy... again! I just ran a test and got over 3 meg, but I know that tomorrow morning, or sunday afternoon, I'll be sat here watching sites fail to load.
I've had the same experience as everyone else of endlessly repeating the same info - no I haven't got a fax machine, no I've already tried a new adsl filter, yes I've tried switching wireless channels, and - the one I get to now - no I am not going to reset the livebox because that is a temporary fix and the problem will reoccur! (Why can't they record all that info in your details so the next person can pick up where the last one left off?)
Is the main problem the contention ratio on the line? It's the only logical explanation I can think of, given that this is an intermittent fault. My exchange is Queensbury, which according to asksam is not an LLU exchange - does that mean I get whatever BT can deliver and Orange can't improve on that? Should I just be happy that I get 3 meg some - possibly most of the time - and just walk away when the braodband drops off to near zero?
Here you go - all advice gratefully received. To be honest I was assuming there wouldn't be much to help in the stats because Orange have been crawling all over my line and router info, but they don't really have any suggestions.
I don't think a usage cap does fit with the problem. Having read some other posts on this forum on caps it seems to be the case that when they cap you your speed drop is consistent (down to less than a meg). My problem is intermittent. We can watch iplayer all evening but then first thing in the morning it refuses to play ball and web sites won't even load.

Queensbury should be LLU-enabled (that's what 'Sam' says) :
Ok. I'm fairly sure it must be a problem with the wireless connection.
I've kept my laptop hooked up to the router and it seems stable at around 3 meg download speed. The wifi signal on my MAC is usually full bars but it does drop in and out occasionally I'm guessing that must be the issue.
I've tried switching channels but no luck as yet. Will post a new topic to see if anyone has answers.
