I've been getting slow speeds now for months 0.5mps which of todays broadband standards as we all know is absolutley rubbish. I've been making calls to Orange for the last 2 months and getting nowhere! So after the last phone call today they tell me my line will only support 1mb. After a few tests everyone else says 4.5mb. They have done something their end and now I'm getting lightening fast speeds of 0.78mps which is mind blowingly.........not much different. A few weeks ago if i reset my 5-6 year old livebox I would get 2.9mb speeds (bear in mind they have just told me my line will only take 1mb) for 10 mins before dropping back to 0.5 so my question is...is there a problem with my livebox or shall we call it a deadbox at this point (because it will be out in the garden with a hammer through it later today)is there anyway to get my old cisco router to work on my connection to see if it is faster than the deadbox? I did try but all the settings are way out of my league as I'm not an expert. Any help from anyone in the know would be greatly appreciated. Is my only option to change provider? Thanks in advance.
Warren
I've just got off the phone to Orange broadband care and they are sending me a new livebox. I will keep you updated with my quest for broadband that is faster than dial-up
If you require any additional support, please drop me a mail to customer.services@orange.co.uk. So I can pick up your mail quickly, please add ‘Jonathan Orange Response' in the first line.
Please also include your personal reference ORT1043 and your username from this site, as without both of these details, I will be unable to pick the case up.
Well I was contacted by the above who told me I would get a call within 24 - 48 hours. Did they call?.......No!
After 3 calls to Orange to request a MAC code and 3 times me conveniently being cut off! today I actually got someone to agree to send me a MAC code.
From the Orange side of things they did send me a new Livebox (and signed me up to new 12 months contract to do this) but this didn't work. They told me my line was only capable of 1mb connection but a few months back i was getting speeds of up tp 2.9mb they regraded my line and it went to 1.9mb (strange when my line is only capable of 1mb) then after half an hour back down to 0.82mps.
So today they were prepared to offer me compensation for all the trouble to keep me as a customer and as i explained if that compensation could be faster than dial up broadband then cool but if not then i would like my MAC code please.
I have been a loyal customer of Orange since they launched in the 90's as i used to be a mobile phone dealer and sold their products from day 1. As soon as they launched the broadband service i have been with them also. So I really don't want to go elsewhere but have no choice. My neighbours are on the same exchange as me and are using the same BT lines as me. We live on a brand new estate so all the phone lines were installed at the same time but neighbours on other service providers such as Sky are getting speeds up tp 5mb. I could be wrong but to me this sounds like the problem is at oranges end and not mine. Rant over, i'm almost free to shop around and hopefully get faster speeds than dial up.
Well after months of complaining I am at last free from the dial up speeds of Orange broadband. I chose to go with Sky in the end as they are my TV provider. I am now getting a steady 7mb connection speed (strange this as Orange told me my line was only capable of 1mb).
Now I can download files at an acceptable rate and even use Skype and watch videos on Youtube!! Best thing I have ever done. Maybe I'll look elsewhere for my mobile soon...........
Hallelujah brothers and sisters, brother Warren has seen the light, repented of his evil Orange ways and has stepped on the righteous MAC path to broadband salvation! Praise Be!

0range Q3-2010 results revealed that the group had a total of 795,000 fixed line internet customers.........that means Orange has declined from having 816,000 (-21,000) in the previous quarter.
