I've been with Orange for 12mths and had put up with a slow 1mb speed, I was in the process of leaving Orange when I was told that as my local exchange has now been upgraded I could avail of a cheaper service that would "guarantee" a minimum of 3mb. I had never heard ANY provider guaranteeing a minimum speed so I asked the girl to repeat it on a couple of occasions.
I took them up on their offer, and for the first 2-3 weeks, as expected, the speed fluctuated dramtically - they put this down to various configuration tests at the exchange. However, it has now stayed at just below 1.5mb for the last 3 weeks.
Orange are denying that they ever told me it was guaranteed, and are telling me that I entered into a new 12mth contract so can't get out.
If I can prove that I was mislead over the 3mb guarantee surely I can get out of the contract?
As an update to this, I've been in touch with Level 2 Support with Orange, apparently Orange use an outsourced company to make sales calls on their behalf - and the promises they make on the phone can sometimes be a bit too good to be true - I got the impression that I wasn't the first person to ring up.
I've been told that if I was indeed promised a guaranteed 3mb speed ( something which I now understand they would never do ) then I'm free to leave!
