I know there are many of us poor folk out there that suffer from horribly slow, laggy and intermitent connection speeds at peak times (although it seems to be getting worse during off peak times as well)
I enjoy a bit of online gaming on the PS3 as a de-stress after work, mostly Modern warfare 2. I seem to get a good download & ping during the weekend and before 6pm through the week, although it has been getting bad during the day time over the last few weeks but nowhere near as bad as between 6pm and 11pm where speeds can get as low as 1.0mb download and a shocking ping of arounf 200ms. This seems to have happen, like most on here have stated, over the last six months, although online gaming for me now between the hours of 6pm and 11pm are impossible due to the poor internet connection.
Having phoned Orange India millions of times gettting through to a lovely but some what scripted and limited response from some guy, (usually "we'll test the line" which always comes back as OK) They dont seem to understand what im trying to get at. Im not the most computer technical guy in the world but i know enough to get by but Orange just seem to give these people a script and they cant stray from it, offering no help to me whatsoever.
I know there are many of us out there experiencing the same problems but i was just wondering if anyone in the same situation had shedded any light on to what is going on?. I understand that peak times mean every Tom, Dick and Harry is surfing the web, downloading music, playing online games like my self etc which obviously will have an effect the speed. I just cant understand why it gets so bad. I live in a relitvly small town and have friends on other ISP, one just accross the road, who never have any problems with there speeds, even during peak times.
If someone could shed some light into the situation it would be greatly sppreciated as im about at my wits end with Orange.

You've answered your own question there, Scott
But it does depend on whether it's the ISP's LLU product or the BT IPStream one.

What type of connection do you have ?
Thanks for the reply Bored now.
I dont really know as im not that keyed up with all this broad band lingo. I was recommended to try this samknows.com to check my areas availabilty from a previous post. i did this check and the below came back from entering my phone number. From what i gather LLU is the service i need to be on, something not avaiable in my area.
I have been with freeserve, wannadoo/orange from the beggining and have never have any trouble until the last few months.
I know its due to my geogrphical location but i have several friends, all living within 1 mile of me, presumably on the same BT exchange, who never have any problems. They constantly get up to 6mbs download and never hve any of this horrible in game lag and low download speeds i get during peak times.
Im just at my wits end. I know its not the end of the world but i pay good money for the broadband service and it fails to deliver.
Thanks Scott
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
Please select the options on the left for more information about broadband availability at your location.
BT Speed checker results. Hope this helps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4936 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps
Your BT speedtester result shows that the router is synced at 7616kbps with an IP Profile of 6500kbps but the throughput speed is low at only 65% of sync, normally that should be around 83%.
My guess, from the subsequent ping posts, is that 0range are using EUSC (End User Speed Control) to limit your connection.
Have you received a warning from 0range regarding "excessive" downloading ?
I have NEVER had anything off Orange to inform me of excessive usage or them putting this restriction on my account. As i said previously i rarely use the internet for anything other then online gaming and the usual surfing. I download nothing, one or two tunes off Itunes but that is only very occasionally.
Im on the home max which include "unlimited" usage. I know there is a fair usage policy but as said above have had nothing of Orange to say im over using.
I have the same issue, during the daytime, and after midnight its bearable, but pointless, as i'm no about at them times.
But in the evening the pings range anywhere between 300 and 1000 ms making gaming impossible.
The pings only go up at 5pm on the dot, i could be in a game and watch the pings rise at 5pm, by 5.30 i have to quit, as they are above 200...
i only have a 2meg line, and it used to be fine, but in the last 6 months its beyond rubbish and trying to communicate with anyone at Orange is a joke. Turning my router off and on for the 50th time is NOT going to fix it....
yeah i have the same trouble aswell perfect before 6 pm downloading at 7mb then 18.01 pm speeds are sometimes down to 0.98 mb and pings very high
But we all know that if you are on BT ip stream and as we are all with Orange you get second best,(it is a bit of a bugger) untill your on oranges llu network there's nothing you can do!!
Thanks for the comments guys!! Hopefully if we get enough people complaining on here about Oranges terrible service something might be done. NOT. lol
I cant even justify playing online on an evening as the connection is that bad. MW2 is unplayable, Battlefield is slightly more bareable but connection loss is a common accourance now with me ending up been thrown out of the game. I know its not the end of the world and there are far more important issues in the world but for £30 odd quid a month i feel like its just money down the drain with Orange, it should be far better then it is.
I have an upcoming switch to BT which all my friends swear by. I would reccommend everyone on Orange who plays online games to do the same and aviod all the trouble and shoddy service you get from Orange.
I could rant all day about the poor service but im even fed up of that now.

Orange have screwed us over here for about 2 years, broadband gaming is impossible during peak hours. Even now on a Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm there is massive lag.
I have never EVER in my entire life been treated this badly by a mainstream company such as Orange.
Their technical support people don't even know what LLU and Interleave is. I mean I barely know what it is but they don't know ANYTHING. One of them was under the impression that online gaming used up more bandwidth than straight up downloading. Utter rubbish.
I thought I'd give them a chance because they were doing some kind of merger recently but it has made sweet f all difference.
I dread the ISP swapping process I really do, I simply have no time for it and from what I've heard Orange make it as hard as they can.
I genuinely hate them now, more so than any hard line terrorist cell/individual and hope in all honesty that Orange goes bust and the people who pull the strings end up in poverty.

Welcome to my world.
Will be swapping to either <a href="http://btbb.at/theside?LID=21">BT</a> or <a href="http://buy-broadband.at/theside?CTY=1&CID=7793" target="o2 (now Sky)">o2 (now Sky)</a> shortly.

Yes, I'm that angry and frustrated.
Thanks for the info Talbot.
Im as frustrated as you my friend. The call centers in India are terrible. They do try bless them but Orange just give them a script and if someone come along with a slightly technical question and they just cant answer it.
As i write this also i have literally just had to turn off my PS3 as Modern Warfare 2 is impossible to play due to the crappy downloads and pings (see below) Im am constantly on the one Orange bar, Lagging all over the place and unable to basically walk around as i lag an incredible lot. It was never the case during the weekend, it was always perfect on a weekend up untill the last few months. I hardly get a decent spell of time on MW2 were the connection is good. Its seems to be bad literally all the time, bar during the day in the week, when im at work.
Talbot. Are you on PS3? Add me if you are my PSN is riddlers.
