Is 5GB really the monthly download limit in peak hours?
This seems excessive low and doesn't allow for any streaming media. Live messenger webcam sessions etc because this seems to take you over the daily limit very easily?
Can someone please clarify as I have received the capping letter today without any warning?
I have just contacted Orange for clarification on this 5Gb monthly limit during peak hours
I want to know if it includes all download activity including watching music video (youtube), chatting to friends on webcam (windows live etc), surfing websites etc
If it does I did a test during peak hours last night and the download activity from my household amounted to 332Mb which included general surfing, watching music via youtube and chatting to friends on webcam.
There was no peer to peer sharing, downloading huge files such as films, no torrent sharing
Now that figure would take us over the 5Gb monthly limit as I understand it or am I reading this wrong?
If so how can a modern family be expected to stay within that limit and maybe its time to find a new ISP
Please someone clarify this for me (btw I have been with Orange since the first day of Freeserve but it seems like my long association with them will end soon if my fears are confirmed)

Yes it is 5GB in peak hours, well, it is actually an average of 5GB over successive months, you will never get capped after just 1 month of excessive downloading, it must continue for at least 2 months and yes it includes 'all' internet activity.
I believe they refer to the cap as being called the End User Speed Control.
They can legally set it to whatever they wish (read their terms) and they are under no obligation to disclose this unless asked upon the sale.
Yes the limit can be reached very easily, yet people should pay less attention to the media and ISP bashers and actually research how the industry works. If you seriously expect the current ADSL / ADSL 2+ network to handle every single household to be online and streaming media at the same time you are very much mistaken. There are only so many pipes currently installed and ISP's must buy bandwidth to distribute to their customers. Hence why you are pretty much screwed if you live near a bunch of students who happen to be connected to the same terminal as yourself. Streaming media, peer to peer and online gaming can do nasty things to that contention ratio of 40:1 / 50:1 you'll be running
Is the limit fair? To me yes, you get what you pay for. If you want more usage, buy a business connection.
