Hi guys,
I recently decided to change my security encryption on my Livebox, it's an inventel, I did this because I wanted to get my Nintendo DS (Which can't support WPA... =/) onto the internet.
Anyway, did that around 3 months ago, and it was fine for a day or two...
Then my dad got Sky+ installed, and since then, I've been getting complaints from the family that the internet is running like our old Tesco Dial up.
Unfortunately, I was in university for a while, and couldn't do anything about it.
Anyway, yesterday I decided enough was enough, and I ran a speed check, which is returning 0.08MB/S, I used to get around 2.3MB on the download. However, upload is still at the normal 0.37, which is still pretty shocking, but I've managed.
I've been reading up on this site to try and find a solution, but I eventually gave up and changed from WEP to WPA security again, and since then I'm lucky to get 0.06MB/S.
I have seen that the problem could be caused by a monumental amount of noise, because the wireless phones around the house are crackling like crazy as well.
Anyway, here's my system info, so if anyone spots the problem, please tell me what it is, just registering for this site took 10 minutes because the damned box timed out.
If the Sky+ box is connected to the phone line then it MUST be filtered. In some cases it's necessary to double filter them.
When Sky install they won't fit a filter , they certainly didn't for me.
Initially just try by disconnecting the Sky+ box from the phone system.
BTW with your attenuation you should be syncing at closer to 5meg than 2.
Yeah, I have now disconnected the Sky+ box altogether, and now, my speed is down to 0.05MB, also, the system info shows my attainable is down another 800K,
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 15.5
Attenuation (dB) : 48.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 1664
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Rate (kbps)
Downstream 1504
Upstream 448
Gateway : 217.32.86.147
Primary DNS server : 193.36.79.100
Secondary DNS server : 193.36.79.101
I'm not too sure what to do about the attenuation, it's been as it is ever since we got the wanadoo package, we do live very close to an industrial estate, and no-one in my street has had anything new installed, I'll try a double filter on the Sky+ and see what heppens

Your connection is using BT IPstream & BT apply profiles that control your speed.
It'spossible that the Sky+ install caused problems on the line & BT lowered the profile. Use the BT Speed tester that'll give your profile details. It's here http://speedtester.BT.com/.
I think you might have to contact 0range support to get BT to raise the profile.

Was there any filter present for the Sky+ box?
I did a speed test yesterday which showed my attainable speed was 250K, the Sky box has been totally disconnected now because we don't use any of the features requiring the phone line, anyway, I will run another test on my laptop, because my folks haven't updated the java on this in over a year, so I will just write the results below:
Current Dl Speed : 113Kb
Max achieveable : 250Kb
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds are 50-250K
DSL connection rate is 2144K up and 448K down.

That shows the router is still synced at 2144kbps so if there has been a noise problem it's now gone away but the IP Profile is probably lagging behind.
You've failed to show the IP Profile result from the BT speedtester, can you run it again and copy+paste the full details please ?

Your profile is stuck just over twice the speed of dial up, call Orange BB and tell them its stuck and to manually adjust it, your connection should allow 1.5/2MBPS depending on how far from your exchange you are, but certainly at least half a MBPS I would think.
