I want to use a VOIP service (provided by a supplier in my wife's home country - because we want a local number there). So we have a VOIP handset which operated just fine on o2 (now Sky) at my previous address. We chose Orange for our new house after we moved - perhaps this was a mistake?? Because I couldn't fix the Livebox I tried to install my old wireless modem/router but to no avail - it isnt connecting on the line at all. So would like a solution that tackles either of these problems.
Problem 1 - VOIP device not working
-----------------------------------------
On the o2 (now Sky) router I had to disable the SIP ALG (application-level gateway) which was blocking the SIP packets that the VOIP phone needed to work properly. I tried to find a way to do the same on the Livebox. No luck in figuring out how to disable the SIP ALG. There is no option on the router configuration pages (at least not that I can find).
When I called the Orange help line they were less than helpful. Basically had no clue what I was talking about and simply said it wasn't their problem. I explained that it is an issue with the router configuration and I was pawned off with the explanation that 'even if you got the right settings it would automatically reset to the default settings if you restart the router'. This is of course b*****ks.
So any advice on how to reconfigure the SIP gateway on the Livebox (Gigaset SE472)?
Problem 2 - Own router not connecting
-------------------------------------------
If I can't solve the above I will try to get my own router working which should work fine with the VOIP phone (it has in the past). The same SWAMR router worked fine on my previous o2 (now Sky) connection.
I tried to connect the router to the line but am having no luck. I tried with the configuration settings (VC MTU, etc) linked on this page and available here on the Orange website. This was unsuccessful. I tried with setting the SWAMR on both ADSL2 mode and ADSL2Plus mode.
It never got passed trying to connect. Unfortunately I can't get the logging on the SWAMR to work properly so I can't see the detailed readout of the connection steps. But in the end its doesn't connect and it says something like "DSL line not connected" when I check the status page.
Any idea why my SWAMR router isn't sensing the DSL line and connecting to Orange?
