When I tried to fetch my emails this morning I got a message saying the box was locked or something, but I could look at them via webmail. Just tried again and POP is saying that I have no emails.
Bought a new PC last week with Windows 7, running Windows Live Mail as the email client. I've set up my Orange email address as the default account in WLM.
I can send and recieve emails through WLM, however I only get a couple of emails a day in my inbox, which is a fraction of what I normally get. When checking my email account through web mail the inbox is full of new emails that are not being downloaded by WLM.
WLM seems to be randomly downloading a couple of emails a day and not touching the rest.
Looks like the lock has been lifted from my account. Why do Orange always think it is something on your computer that has caused it and not their servers?
jw: is your username your full email address or the part to the right of the '@'? If the former, try deleting everything to the left and including the '@'.
eg.
joebloggs.orangehome.co.uk
instead of
joe@joebloggs.orangehome.co.uk

Presume you mean the broadband username which is something like :-

No, I mean the email address without the username. With the username set as joe@joebloggs.orangehome.co.uk, your email program will only download emails that are addressed to joe. If you have emails addressed to jill or whoever, it won't download them.

If Orange has locked your email account it will have been for a valid reason. For example if a spammer knows your password he can send tonnes of spam from your account but not neccesarily your computer. Now they could have gained your password from a virus on your computer or a phishing email...either way Orange should assume the worst for your own and its other customers security.
It's your responsibility to ensure that your account and computer remains secure, most if not all ISP's state this in the T&C's of their services.

Please try to read my original post before posting rubbish. My POP3 account was locked as my connection dropped while email was being downloaded. IIRC this lock is there to stop two devices trying to access the account at the same time and is supposed to be removed once the email had been fetched. This didn't happen so I was unable to download my emails until Tuesday evening when the lock was removed.
Also I was able to read most of my emails via webmail, but some due to the encoding they were using were not visible.
BTW I'm not using Windows, but GNU/Linux so my chances of getting a virus are smaller than yours.

Please try to respond in a manner you would use with your mother rather than sounding like an ass. I read your post but as you didn't know what the problem was and didn't provide much info other than stating your account is locked but web access is available, how on earth was I supposed to know what the problem was?
For your information if Orange was to lock your account for spamming they would lock SMTP access, leaving web access still possible.
Next time you feel like posting on a forum to ask for advice, don't.
I use linux too, why the assumption that I'm a windows user? Anyway a linux user who relies on its inherant security features is more vulnerable than a windows user who knows how to secure their box effectively.
You're no less vulnerable than a windows user to phishing attacks, which is the main reason why Orange would ever lock an account, hence why I posted my original response (.
