Just woundering if anbody help me understand this.
I have a livebox and my connection speed is 3.2mb.But i have changed it to a netgear dg834g v4 with the latest firmware and it only connects at 2.3mb
I have tryed changing the settings on the adsl page from g.dmt to adsl2 and even adsl2+,which is whatthe livebox was connected at.
It has got me baffeled by it so please can someone explain to me why or am i just going,to ned to plug the livebox back in again.
I am on the 20mb package awell but my line is just over 2miles long.

Give us some router stats , that may give some clue.
Also with that router you can use modded firmware from DGTeam that enables you to tweak various settings. I've used their firmware in my DGN2000 & tweaked the noise margin & gained nearly 3meg.

Noise Margin 10.4 db 14.0 db
i found at just at 5pm today that i set the connection mode at g.dmt i got the best connection speed,i know my line atentuation is long but was only showing 59.5 on the livebox aswell and that was on adsl2+ if i put the netgear on adsl2+ my connection speed is less
where can i find that software you said so i can tweak the snr and so on.
thanks for the reply got the firmware for the netgear that tinytim said and i have changed my snr on it to 6.3 here is my router stats showing now
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3081 kbps 589 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.1 db 14.0 db
so i will try and reboot the router on monday about 10 ish as you said before bordnow you will get better connection's then than other times like tonight for instance.
The only problem I can see is that you are paying for an "up to 20meg ADSL2+" connection and only receiving an "up to 8meg ADSL" connection......personally I don't see the point in that.
Would you buy a TV and be happy with receiving only BBC1 and ITV1 ?
i change from the 8mb to 20 mb cause i was paying £17.99 for 8 and i now pay £12.00 for 20 mb but they said i did'nt matter what contract i was on i would only get the same speeds all the time so, i went for the cheaper option.
due to the lenth of my line but i have now read on sam knows that Orange are asking BT to manage there network or something like that.
so it probelly's mean that i will stil get the same speed's anyway because as faras i know shildon has not yet changed on BT's new 21cn yet was due on 2011 but it have dissapered from samknows site on the exchange search.

Yes that's bloody annoying now we can't see any planned/expected upgrades.
i did'nt think there would be any upgrades from Orange they can't manage what they have done now never mind the future,
The only way i will benefit better broadband is when shildon get's fibre placed to the green boxes which for me is is 2 mins walk from from house that's when i will see any diference for a BT engineer said we were to get it next year sometime but when i don't know
