Hi group, I go right back to Freeserve dialup and then 512K and so on - no major problems, touch wood.
Yesterday I installed a Netgear DG834GT wireless ADSL router - all good, got it going in about 1min. However, I configured it to email me with any security alerts and this morning it has emailed me about 25 DOS attacks. By the way, the wireless access point is currently disabled until my other hardware arrives, after which I'll be using MAC filtering.
I read on t'Internet somewhere that one or two 'attacks' could just be stray packets but more than that is a cause for concern. Also it said I need to take it up with my ISP because once it's taken up bandwidth at my end the Denial-Of-Service has done its job.
Is this worth worrying about? Or should I just switch off the email notifications and relax? My actual Internet connection appears to work fine regardless.
Here's a sample - they are all 1, 2 or 4 packets, no more:
That IP is registered to a chinese company. Probably it's part of a port scan or known exploit attack. If you're fully patched, don't have DMZ set or many ports open then you're pretty safe.
