My Dad has just received an Orange LiveBox and I have successfully set it up for him.
It is connected to a desktop PC via an ethernet cable and wirelesly to a couple of laptops.
What I want to do is share the printer so that anyone can use it. I don't want the desktop PC to have to be switched on if someone prints from a laptop so I want to connect the printer to the LiveBox. I realise there have been other posts about this but I am still not exactly sure what to do.
His printer is a HP inkjet which has an ethernet socket on the back of it as well as the usual USB connector, so I guess the printer is suitable.
First of all can I connect the printer AND the PC with an ethernet cable to the livebox (i.e. are there 2 ethernet sockets on the livebox - I am not at his house at the moment so can't look)?
Does the printer software need to be installed on all PCs?
Does the livebox need any configuring (and if so, how do I do it)?
yes, you need to install the software on each computer (I did this after I had plugged in the printer to the livebox)
I didn't have to configure anything on the livebox itself.
If it is any help, I plugged the printer into the livebox, then ran the printer software (HP) - during installation, it asks you if you want to connect via ethernet or USB, you select ethernet, and then it seems to do everything itself!.
One thing, in the printers and faxes window, you may have more than one printer installed (i.e. one via USB, one via ethernet) - you will need to change which printer is viewed as the default one.
