I must say I never thought I would be having to join a forum to complain about Orange broadband, as I have been with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for over 6 years with absolutely no problems at all.
My problems started when I decided to upgrade from my unlimited 512k broadband connection to broadband max at 2Mbit. I recieved the livebox pretty quickly, installed it and waited for my line speed to be upgraded. I waited until yesterday (10 working days) and on finding that the linespeed was still at 512k, I decided to call customer service.
I was very disappointed to find out that Orange had already tried on two occasions to upgrade my line, but encountered a problem in that they say the line can't handle anything over 512k! I called BT (my phoneline provider) and they said they can offer a connection speed of 4Mbit!
Meanwhile I have this Livebox, which is useless to me as I could just as well have kept using my old USB modem, being charged £20 for a regrade that failed, and am not sure whether or not I can cancel this order and move to BT without having to pay for the 12 month minimum contract for the hire of the Livebox.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Am I able to cancel this package now or am I stuck with a 512k connection I don't want because I still have some sort of broadband service and a 12 month minimum hire agreement for the livebox, independent of the Orange contract?

If the line regrade didn't go through then they should be able to refund that fee. Also usually changing package doesn't lock you into a new 12 month contract so you should be able to cancel if you want to.
I know, I found that strange too. I am going to call customer support again on Monday and if I can't get the issue cleared up by the end of the week I'll just have to go with BT. BT are offering a better deal for a cheaper price anyway, but I did quite fancy the free phonecalls from Orange so I will hold out a little while longer and see if the regrade works next time.
hi
ive been with freeserver/wannado/orange for over 3 years now got broadband service from freeserve then it chnaged to wannado no probs
orange takes over and they try and be smart and boost the PERFECTlY working 512kb to 2mb which on some days (very rare) can stay connected for over an hour but most times the model loses adsl connection
and ive spent over 60 pounds on the phone trying to sort it...
every time i ring i got same instruction shut down pc and disconnect modem BLAH BLAH which has no coherient affect on the adsl line
is there any way to reduce speed from our pc or am i stuck with a crappy service if so BT is looking good
