Thought it would be best to start a new post so it can be easily spotted by everyone.
The official response is :- "Orange have made changes to the DLM process from Thursday 25 February in response to some technical issues that have been brought to light. Orange has identified a number of customers whose MSR (Maximum Stable Rate) is significantly higher than their sync. rate. Over the next few weeks these customers will be regraded. After this time, any customers who believe they still have an issue with SFBB speeds should follow normal procedure and contact Broadband Customer Service."

That's worrying.....I feel a "DOWNGRADED - PART2" thread coming on.
The generally-accepted definition of MSR is along the lines of :-
The lowest sync. rate achieved during the initial testing/training period
Although MSR can be re-established after the initial connection (I'm not talking about re-syncing or re-booting but the very first time the ADSL2+ connection is established) it is very unusual for this to occur.
So it is still unclear whether Orange will re-establish the MSR i.e. downgrade it to the actual sync currently achieved or retain the current MSR and "repair" the current sync to achieve the MSR.
Well if the DLM has been on the line since last Thursday, it has tried and tried ever so hard to get me down to 8 meg. But I fight back and reboot my router and eventually I get back to 12 meg.
So maybe Orange have programmed in a bit of a boxing match scenario into the code. It fights against your line, you throw a punch or two and it gives up for the time being. Then when you are not looking, it tries again.
The DLM has just resynced my line, good job I had router stats on. Real steady SNRM of 9.9 all morning, not a hint of noise, then suddenly the DLM rsyncs my line and I find my download and upload speeds have suffered!
There was no need for the DLM to resync, I was doing fine!
I'll just have to reboot to get the speeds back up AGAIN!
DLM going crazy at the moment!! 3 resyncs in the last 10 mins!
....DLM = Demented Line Management
You tell it something and minutes later it's forgotten it so asks again and minutes later it's forgotten it so asks again and minutes later it's forgotten it so asks again and minutes later it's forgotten it so asks again...................

That sounds like <a href="http://www.maccodes.co.uk" target="MAC">Orange</a> CS.
