My 90 year old father in-law switched to Sky broadband after having been originally with Freeserver, then Wannadoo and then Orange.
Each switch to Wannadoo and Orange was made without any contract being signed it just happened automatically.
After getting his MAC code he disconnected Orange and is now using the Sky broadband box. Now Orange are calling him, being agggressive to his 85 year old wife and chasing for £140 for an ongong 12 month contract bill.
How is it possible that any legitimate company can claim charges in advance for broadband access, hassle a 90 year old man and his wife and be so nasty and tedious to extort money from a long standing customer?
Please if anyone has any information to share to comment to make I would be extremely grateful. I am in the process of adding my name to my father in-laws account to persue this through citizens advise or watchdog etc but meanwhile any help would be appreciated.
Your father-in-law may have recently "upgraded" from his existing package.
Even though he'd been with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for a number of years, if he'd upgraded from, for example, a 2meg package to an 8meg package with a phone deal then that would be a new contract.
If he's anything like my 88 year old father-in-law, he'll have all his old bills so check out if he upgraded within the last 18 months.
Don't let this stop him from being internet-active though
I'm sorry he feels the calls are aggressive; this is certainly not our intention. If you can email the landline number/broadband account number and best contact number to customer.services@orange.co.uk, I'll give your father-in-law a ring to discuss.
So I can pick up your mail quickly, please add 'Jonathan Orange Response' in the first line.
