Basically with Orange i'm stuck on 512kbs, distance from my exchange and all that crap they go on about. However my issue is that BT, AOL etc say I can receive speeds of up to 1.5mb on my line so why cant Orange offer me this? Its the same telephone line etc, etc...
I've called and emailed Orange several times and been told that they have done a speed check and can offer 512... I know this, I'm getting that speed!! All I want to know is how BT, AOL and friends can offer me a faster speed on the same, apparently poor, telephone line.
My exchange is Peartree if that helps anyone here who probably knows considerably more then Orange do. I know my phone line must be pretty long between my home and the exchange as even 1.5mb is slow, are these exchanges likely to be upgraded? Or is the only way I’m getting a faster speed is if I move house?
You'll be limited to 512k on plain ADSL. 1.5meg on ADSL Max sounds about right for a good 512k connection which is just off getting 1meg.
Orange don't do ADSL Max yet, it's due around November there's bound to be more info posted on here and probably announcements from Orange about that time.
It's only been around a few months now so at least a lot of the major bugs should be worked out by the time they fully introduce it.
To be honest I’ll probably just switch to BT, or someone before November. For about the last 2-3 months my connection has been dropping all the time, it will be online for about 2 hours then drop for 5 minutes and this is constant. I never had this problem before in my 4 years with them and unlike other people on this forum who get the intermittent connection I have not been upgraded to this LLU thing (I think anyway).
lol just while I was typing this my connection dropped (25minutes) since it last did. Multiple calls to Orange and 2 line tests later have resulted in them telling me there is a fault. (I asked what, they said they weren’t told themselves…) And it’ll be fixed by the 27th August…

Normally the exact nature of faults aren't relayed to them, a few details might get through from the engineer updates but they're usually pretty short, their time is better spent fixing things rather than trying to explain what caused each fault.
Understand the date given isn't guaranteed, it's likely to be the point by they expect the next update or for whatever work is currently being done to be completed. Something may crop up, another problem may be found or it might be unrelated to the fault. Hopefully everything will be fixed for you then however.
