I'm an ISP - I am exhausting my overall bandwidth available in an area that is provided by my supplier. What can I do?
Offer a faster speed with the magic phrase "up to"
Move my customers over to the new package.
Slow them down by throttling the connection and hey presto I can now have 3 customers when I used to have 1 but no greater demand in the exchange or service provided by my supplier so no extra cost to me.
End result: few pi**ed off existing customers (if they notice); more overall customers. More subscriptions. I win! (and a spin off of a lot of call fees as the pi**ed off customers try to resolve the "problem" - which isn't one!)
lol, just read your theory. Thats what I first thought when it happened to me. Seems strange that its happening on the "upto" 20Mb package!
I've been fobbed off with BS along the lines of "that's all your line can support" (When I had 4Mb before.... The connections capped at 1020kbps god damn it!)
They are saying its the DLM thats the problem, but it's quite easy to blame an automated system. People who have had their connections "fixed" have been manually overidden after a LONG LONG complaint procedure and various reimbursement and MAC requests.
The majority of us (think of those that don't know how to check or indeed are unaware of slow speeds). They will happily carry on surfing paying for this lackluster service.
This problem is of no detriment to Orange. We'll see in a few weeks if indeed the "new" DLM does help our connection speeds. I have a funny feeling that we will see no improvement unless we decide to down extreme channels of communication and be that lucky customer that gets manually overridden.
My apologies if you are a genuine customer of Orange but you come across as yet another of Orange's contractors' employees posing as able to offer analysis/advice on the latest of Orange problems.
Some of your comments/ observations just do not make sense.
