For a couple of weeks now, when I go to log-in to fsmail webmail at https://web.orange.co.uk/r/login/ (browser SeaMonkey) I have been getting this warning: -
Website certified by an unknown authority.
------------------------------------------
Unable to identify the identity of web.orange.co.uk as a trusted site.
Possible reasons for this error:
-Your browser does not recognize the Certificate Authority that issued the site's certificate.
-The site's certificate is incomplete due to a server misconfiguration.
-You are connected to a site pretending to be web.orange.co.uk, possibly to obtain your confidential information.
Please notify the site's webmaster about this problem.
I also get a similar, but scarier, warning in Firefox. There is no problem with other Verisign secure sites.
I've been clicking the 'Accept the certificate temporarily' option and carrying on as usual.
The certificate on the link you've posted is perfectly valid and was recently re-issued on the 13th of January. This might explain why you've been receiving warnings, it's nothing to be concerned about.
Thanks. I agree, I couldn't see anything wrong date-wise, though I don't think the issue started as long ago as 13th Jan. I was pretty sure it wasn't "a site pretending to be web.orange.co.uk"! From the wording of the message it looks almost as though the 'certifying authority' is not recognised as Verisign. It's just rather strange, and I've never seen this on any other site.
It happens occasionally but is not generally something that you would notice. I think you may have had an error with the certificate because your browser was attampting to resolve the site using a local copy of the certificate, only to throw up an error when it didn't match the sites newer version.
