hi i joined Orange starter free with mobile contract and the best speed i can get is 128.kbps. i have phoned Orange tech support upteen times but can still not resolve this. they keep telling me could be my phone line etc.that cant be right as i live in a new build house with my 2 brothers on either side also in new house all built at the same time with new phone lines laid together. my older brother is on Orange wireless upto 8 meg and gets around 5to 7 meg on average whereas me and my younger brother who also signed upto starter at the same time as me cannot get past 128.kbps. we are both using speedtouch 330 modems and are running windows vista. any help would be really appreciated

Is the modem plugged into the main BT linebox or an extension box wired off the main box ?
If an extension is being used, try plugging it into the main BT box, with no other telephonic equipment plugged in to either the main box or any extensions.
sorry for the delay have spent hours on the phone with Orange technical support in india and dread my phone bill but still have had no luck with them.this ia the result i got from the BT speed tester
105 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.
it is still showing on the computer as 128 kbps. any help in getting this sorted will greatly appreciated. the modem is connected into the main BT socket and i have tried 3 different filters and still the same. i have tried it with the phone unplugged but no difference.
here is the rest of the test results must have missed it out on the first reply
The speed test has completed on test server speedtester1.nat.BT.com for user ********** and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of
105 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.
Your IP address is **********, your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and is running on Windows NT 6.0.
BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service:
For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps.
For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps.
For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps.
For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps.
You may now disconnect from the speed test account (click 'disconnect' in your internet connection window) and if you wish to regain normal access to the internet please re-connect to your ISP using your usual username and password.
Please note that test results may vary according to varying traffic in the network. If you continue to experience slower throughput when logged in to your ISP, this may be due to a slow internet site or high traffic levels beyond the BT Wholesale Network. Please report this situation to your ISP's helpdesk.

this is the result from thinkbroadband
From the looks of that BT speedtest result it means you're on LLU but doesn't really tell much about the connection, no downstream sync rate or IP Profile. That should be provided by the first test and not the part where it asks you to log in with a different username.
HI DEFINETLY NOT IN LLU AREA BASED IN FIFE SCOTLAND AND CANNOT FIND HOW TO GET DETAILED INFO ABOUT MY CONNECTION SPEED ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
That speedtest is mentions disconnecting from the Speedtest login, part of the second stage of the test that is sometimes suggests. It's the first section of the test that gives the information we need.
sorry i still cant find out how to do the detailed speedtest. as soon as i go on the BT speedtest page it asks for my phone number then after a few minutes comes back to ask my email address and gives me the results i have already posted above.
You need to enter your landline number you originally entered when you signed up along with, when asked, your username not email address. Usually the username is
xxxxxx.orangehome.co.uk@fs
depending on what you selected when you signed up and if you upgraded an existing account it will be that instead of orangehome.
