I'm still receiving email using POP3 to pop.freeserve.net but for the past few days it no longer contains any emails tagged with "*** SPAM ***" in the subject. All those spam emails I regularly received are no longer available. This is a problem because Orange used to quite often incorrectly mark ham as spam. That was something I could deal with; no classifier is going to be 100% correct. But if I'm not even able to receive the spam then I'm missing email I want to receive.
How can I get Orange to once again deliver emails it considers spam to me?
OK, I found webmail has a setting to put all suspected spam into a separate Spam folder. That folder isn't accessible using POP3. I've turned the option off. Presumably it's a newly introduced option and the default was set to "yes"? Orange should have sent out an email warning people of this for users like me who never use webmail.
I'm now moving 1007 emails from the Spam folder to Inbox. Unfortunately, the only way of doing this seems to be hitting the "Mark as Not Spam" button which is training the spam spotter with incorrect information.
Webmail wouldn't refile one of them from Spam folder to Inbox. It complained it couldn't "send" it because it contained a virus or something. Of course, I had to find out which one of the 1007 it was and delete it since it didn't bother to say.
Having altered the Setting to say I wanted spam to go to my Inbox, not my Junk, folder a while ago and everything getting back to normal. I once again had spam not being downloaded since a week or two ago.
Logging into webmail showed the Setting had been changed back to spam going into the Junk folder! This has happened to several of my email accounts. So I've just had to go round them all again, restoring them to putting spam into Inbox.
Orange! Why are you doing this? Why do you change my email settings? And if you feel that my account should suffer this change for some reason, please do me the courtesy of sending me an email warning me you've done it! Learn a bit of customer service.
