Woke up this morning to a dead internet, and the Livebox Homepage helpfully informs me that the PPP sever is down. Must say that this is the first time I have had this issue.
After a bit of research, I have tried to reset the protocol via the hidden adsl.html page, but when the Livebox resets, I find that it has reverted back to pppoa (and I still have the PPP error).
I am about to do a factory reset, but apart from that, is there anything else I should check before I make the dreaded phone call to support?
Happy New Year to all,
Regards,
White.
(Using T-Mobile mobile broadband - it just works, and at 3.6Mb is almost as fast as Orange!)
Well, I made the call, and I must say the agent was actually very good. He didn't make me do another factory reset, but checked that I had the correct username/password, gave me a BT test user log on to try (also failed), and then checked his system for problems.
He then reported that there was a known fault, and that I should be re-connected in a few hours. (If not, then I shall be calling again tomorrow!)
When I've had this in the past I've sorted it by hooking up my old usb modem, logging in and then going back to the livebox.
Others have also found this to work, you could do a search here and read up.
Hi, thanks, I did read about re-connecting the USB modem, but I last used that on Win95 about 3 computers ago, if I recall. Didn't fancy getting hold of drivers, and so on....
To be fair, I checked the connection about an hour later, and I am fully restored. Looks like they rebooted their LLU kit, or something. Anyway, I was dreading the call to Tech Support, and it was painless - maybe they HAVE been listening to the gripes on here?
Sorry to read of your problems. I work for Orange and may be able to help.
If you can email your landline number/broadband account number and best contact number to customer.services@orange.co.uk, I'll give you a ring to discuss.
So I can pick up your mail quickly, please add 'Jonathan Orange Response' in the first line.
I've noticed this same problem today. I'm in Norwich area and I do not use a livebox. I've been using Netgear routers ever since Freeserve's service started and then it was switched to Wanadoo and now I have Home Starter.
Anyway, my router is normally on permanently, but this morning my network is fine, just don't have the internet. It seems to be PPP down.
Is this something that is likely to right itself later today? It's been out for 3 hours as far as I'm aware. (the router has a little figure of 8 light which is currently off).
I luckily have a netbook and Three dongle and also my mobile phone is using Orange mobile internet. Both of these seem to be fine and only suffering the usual localised blackspots that we get in my village.

I'm in Norwich and have got PPP down as well, and my parents out near Yarmouth also can't connect.
I've tried a factory reset on my Livebox and using an old SpeedTouch USB modem with no luck.
Sounds like it could be a worryingly widespread problem - currently in a queue with Orange tech support to try to find out what's going on.
Nothing on their service status number.
