I've just been informed by the crazy and wacky folk at Orange HQ that they've reduced my line capability from 7.5 meg to 5.5 (due to instability on the line).
Question is, if I change ISP (say, to 02 for example), will they increase the capability?
I was getting over 6 meg for the past year and recently had trouble connecting (intermittent, DNS probs etc...).
BT say my line is capable of over 9 meg; I've asked Orange if they could increase the speed to what it was before, and they said they couldn't.
So in essence, 2 questions :
1 - will another ISP give me more download speed (i.e. increase the line capacity without any problems)....
and..
2 - if the line can't handle any more than what Orange say, who's responsibility is it, to get it fixed ? (Orange) say they've done all they can...
Thanks in advance.

Christmas is over....Oranges are now not in season
If you can get o2 (now Sky) LLU then you'll probably see a synch of at least 9Mb and possibly 10Mb+ depending on your attenuation. Put your downstream attenuation into this calculator :-
If you can't get o2 (now Sky) LLU then don't go with their Access product....it can be worse than Orange altho' you will be talking to their CS for free, in English

Lol ! - thanks, Borednow; and yes, I'm on 02 LLU (woo-hoo!!!) - and checking on this site :
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 6.5Mbps or greater.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL2+ broadband line rate of 9Mbps or greater.
And about my downstream attenuation, the mini Livebox stats read :

Would it be 160, 16, or 1.6 ??
And I tried to get my MAC code from them, but a certain 'Mick' said that my speed should crawl back up to over 5 meg in a few days time.
16dB .....you lucky £$&?@......go for the Premium package, you could see a throughput of around 16Mb -18Mb. You're less than a mile from the exchange !

Do you really want to take a chance that he's telling the truth now that you know what o2 (now Sky) can provide ?
By the way, with downstream power at 15.6dBm, that's probably the cause of your problem...either a duff Livebox or faulty gear in your local exchange. It should be around 18 or 19dBm.

Thanks again - and re. your last point, if it is faulty gear at the exchange, will a change in ISP rectify that ?
If you switch to another ISP's LLU equipment then yes......they don't share each other's as far as I'm aware. Are you on Orange LLU or their BTw IPStream product ?
If you were moving from one BTw ISP to another then it's very likely the fault would still Be Broadband.

Cheers, and I'm on Orange LLU btw (enabled since 31.7.06 from 'SamKnows', and 02/Be LLU enabled since 13.12.06).
