Unlimited local and national calls from your home phone for £20.99 a month including a broadband internet connection and unlimited calls to 28 countries.
Sound good... But there has to be a catch? Surely?
I am sure that lots of home users will be switching. I have no doubt about that... What should be of concern to those that do switch will be whether Talk Talk will be able to handle the number of new customers and whether any glitches that may occur will be appropriately corrected and within a reasonable time frame so as not to inconvenience their new customers too much.
The deal is cheap. Too cheap?
Wel... If CW can reassure customers that they have strategies in place for any unforeseen situations, then perhaps it's worth a try.
I enquired and the 'free forever' broadband was going to cost me £10 a month because BT wouldn't release my line (?) and even though I would have to sign up to the phone deal now I wouldn't get on to Talk Talk broadband for FIVE MONTHS..! Earliest connection date September 2006.
The market will stagnate as BT have no current plans to upgrade phone lines anytime soon!
Basically, after ADSL 2+ the furthest we can go to is Wirless and then we are pretty much stuck on a 24meg/s connection (Actual Download Speed 8000kps)
Until BT update the lines to optical fibre lines were all stuck in a spiral of poor quality broadband. Personally, i think that the £7000 spent on Cherie Blair's hair during the national elections shud have gone on re-routing new lines!!!
BT should get its finger out and update the lines to optical fibre, they should have done this years ago IMO but it all comes down to fat cat bonuses and pension plans

When the government started pumping all that money into the travesty that was the Millenium Dome I was utterly dismayed. A far better use of the money would have been to dig a trench from Edinburgh to London, and install a new high-speed rail track + a fibre optic mainline down its entire length. What better way to embrace the 21st century?
Sadly, we'll never see this level of cooperation between such large corperations.
Not sure what the ADSL2+ is but as far as i am aware the 21CN isshifting all BT existing technology to IP based, like Talk Talk is
What do we mean by 21CN?
21CN is BT's advanced communications network for the future. It is designed to empower the end-user with control, choice and flexibility - offering communications from anywhere to any device. The network infrastructure will allow BT and its customers to make new services available faster than has ever been possible before. BT is investing around £10bn in 21CN between now and 2010.
21CN will be an IP-based network, consolidating BT's existing separate networks into one - ensuring the delivery of converged services faster, more efficiently and more cost-effectively than ever before:-
customers will be able to access any communications service from any device from anywhere - at broadband speed. The traditional device and geographic barriers to seamless communications are being eroded and exciting new services are emerging;
21CN is designed to deliver a world class customer experience from end-to-end, from accessing and managing a range of services, to receiving the bill - with those services delivered at the same or better quality as today; and
21CN will drive a radical simplification of BT's operations, including delivering significantly lower costs and the capability to launch new services to market faster than we can today.
Why are we doing this?
the technology and economics that underpin the traditional telecommunications industry are changing. Convergence, long talked about, is now gaining traction and will continue to build momentum. BT plans to be one of the key drivers of that change; and
simplicity is the key and this means the boundaries between mobile and fixed line services, and between voice, data and video, will become increasingly blurred.
Involvement of others in the industry
21CN will be just one of a number of networks - all players need the right investment climate.
BT's Consult21 programme has been developed to ensure that the telecoms industry is aware of our vision - and is able to input its development. The Consult21 Steering Board will create, manage and own the framework within which we can agree interoperability, and consult on the development of next generation products and services (including access and interconnection products with their associated contracts, timeline etc), taking account of Ofcom policy, BT's network capability and industry requirements.
Members of the steering board include representatives for each sector of the industry, all competitors of BT's. The board sets objectives and agrees deliverables for Working Groups, which are attended by around 40 representatives at a working level from across the industry.
Progress
Following the successful conclusion of trials on strategic equipment in December 2005, the next phase, the trial of telephone services over the IP network, will begin soon.
Operational planning to migrate customers to the 21CN in Cardiff, which will see the first live operation of 21CN, is well advanced. Through the communication forum, Consult 21, BT, in close consultation with industry and Ofcom, has made good progress in agreeing the detailed voice migration plans for the entirety of the migration period.
Contracts have been placed with Alcatel, Cisco, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Ciena, Huawei, Lucent and Siemens.
