Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a printer directly to the livebox, and then print from different computers that are connected to the livebox, wired or wireless?
I read on another forum that the livebox can act as a print server, and that the USB port above the 1 and 2 buttons is intended for this purpose.
I wondered if it is one of those theoretical capabilites that Orange 'doesn't support yet'...
That should be fine connected into one of the ethernet ports. Setting it to use DHCP is the easiest option though it may need the IP settings setup manually.
They're just standard ethernet ports, almost any ethernet device should work. Although I'm sure some devices which only work specific settings or setups may have trouble.
plugged it in and re-installed the printer drivers and it works fine!
Why don't Orange tell you that the livebox is capable of doing this sort of thing?
great!
I suppose Orange are providing it as a wireless means to connect Windows PCs to their service and as such don't advertise it's other features (such as it works with Macs) as they do not provide support for them
orange probably dont advertise the fact, as it is a router.
routers can have ethernet printers connected to them so Orange probably thinks its obvious to anyone who knows about routers, that printers can be connected to em.
Well it's true they could make it a bit clearer with what it's capable of. From looking at the details myself and having to answer the same questions I wondered at first on occasion they could do a better job with that.
