Im with Orange starter pack with unlimited broadband and up to 20mb speeds for £7 a month. because of my area i can only get up to 5.5mb which is more than fine but about a week ago it suddenly dropped to 1.7mb then 2 days ago it dropped all the way down to 0.8mb and it seems to be slowing even further. iv phoned them up to find out the problem and they asked me to do a few speed tests at different times of the day. (Which iv done about 100 times already) to see if it varied. but all the times i checked again it stayed the same. now they said there going to get an engineer to look at my line to find any problems.
This is starting to anoy me now sinse iv bought a new laptop which i was planning to play games on but now with the slow internet its making the games go all laggy and its now even starting to affect my xbox which has really wound me up.
is there anyone out there who has started to have the same problem?
Sorry for any spelling errors of horrible grammar im not so good with my spelling.
well first your noise margin is ver high should be set a default rate at 6db mine is allways at 10.1,but i think you are stuck a 1 mb profile best person to say is bordnow he can tell you exactlly what's what!!!!
Tells you with that attenuation, 43dB, your router is capable of synching at around 7900kbps. But that SNRM of 31dB is restricting your connection severely.
If you have disconnections then it could be a line problem. If you can get it to run then download for free, RouterstatsLite (not Routerstats) from http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/inter.../files.htm
Setup : Router = Orange Livebox the URL will auto create then insert username+password and away you go !
This will monitor SNRM and Synch and from this you will see the movement of SNRM and if re-synchs occur.

Thank you for this help im gonna work on this now and get back with the results.
never mind iv switched my routers to a speedtouch and iv managed to find out and sort out the status page routerstats lite has picked my speed up at 1019kpbs and 34Db noise margin
Just realised there's a "User Defined" option in the router list.
You can use that then copy + paste the correct url for the stats page.
Looks like the SNRM is moving a lot. You should find that about now (3:30pm) it will start to drop. As it gets darker noise interference increases thus reducing the signal/noise margin.
Do you have an NTE5 main BT socket (lower half front unscrews and a test socket is inside) ?
If so and you have extensions wired off the frontplate then that may be the source of your problem. Try plugging the router into the test socket and take the stats again.
currently over my girlfriends house ill take a peep inside the sockets when i get home before i left the house i was looking at the noise at it was moving slightly from 34 to 33.5 i dont know if thats any useful info.
So is this whats slowing the internet? i use broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk sinse speedtest.net dosent work so well for me. everytime i test it with the most siutable servers the speed rapidly goes out of controll so thats not working but on speedchecker sp far every time iv tryed at different times of the day and at night its only 856ish kbps which adds up to 107Kb/ps
im home now and iv had a look behind the sockets and i dont have any test ports. Would make sense sinse BT didnt install them my dad did and quit some time ago too.
