I have several laptops connected to the livebox over wifi, and a PC over ethernet. All of them run Windows XP at the moment.

Is there any way to share files between them as if on a LAN?

When I ping one from another, I always get the Destination host unreachable message...

Perhaps there's something I can do to fix that?

I hope!

Otherwise I'd have to buy another router, and connect that to the livebox only so that internet access works, right?

They are on LAN already, if they are connected to the livebox, either via ethernet or wireless and you shouldnt need another router.

Firewalls installed on the laptops/PC often block ping requests and some can need tweaking to allow File Sharing.

Try sharing a folder on one then try connecting to it by typing its address in the Windows Run dialog on another computer ie \\192.168.1.xxx

Hi, thank you for your quick reply!

It turned out to be a typical user error case... I wanted two devices to talk one with IP 192.168.0.30 and the other 192.168.1.2, while having a subnetmask of 255.255.255.0. I switched to a subnetmask of 255.255.0.0 and all works perfectly!

I can now also report that the D-Link NAS DNS-313 works on the yellow port of the livebox Smile
