EDIT 13/11/09 2158 And to answer my query in the post below: No it wasn't: Orange now say it's a faulty line card, but the second in Three months?
Am I unlucky or is there something about the quality of their LLU infrastructure?
I can't find any info anywhere else, but I've just been informed by CS there is a "global" issue affecting Orange Servers which leaves at least LLU landline customers unable to access the internet, expected to last another 24-48 hours from 1700 hours Thursday 12th November. Nothing was on the status line last time I checked.
Anyone else aware of this, for the last 24 hours they say they have, unsuccessfully, been testing a line fault on my line. Internal communication still seems to leave something to be desired if it's taken CS 30 hours to find out (my internet access lost around 11am Wednesday).

Our internet has been down since Tuesday morning. After several phone calls, it came back on last night for quite a few hours. This morning it was fine til 10.30, but it hasn't worked since.
There was no mention of them having any problems with their servers etc.
They even said at first that it could be my router.
Now I've resorted to paying out the extortionate fee of £80 to Car Phone Warehouse for a dongle just to access my emails.
Quote: The forums would be awash with threads if that was the case......and they're not.
Precisely, that's why I posted. More Orange porkies: why don't they realise they always get found out? (I foolishly responded to a text message asking me to ring them for an update! Is this a new automated, and meaningless, PR exercise when you raise a fault?). I'm in Essex so connect to London servers which is what makes it more likely there'd be uproar. Time for a MAC to Sky methinks; only thing that kept me with Orange was it's up to £10 cheaper with the free 2nd line calls as I work part time from home. Even the 3 dongle is more reliable and at 2.5Meg consistently, fortunately acceptable for remote working in this semi-rural area.
By the way if you have an Orange phone don't use their published 0844 number, but go in through the, I hope, free 150 number on the mobile phone which gives you the same menu.
Well sad me got up at 04.07am and the internet is back on.
How long for though, I wonder.
Took an age to get my emails to come through, and then at first the internet wouldn't stay connected for long.
Going back to bed now to see what happens when I get up again.
And after another reset, the Livebox is now still synchronised, but the PPP session is connecting and disconnecting every minute for the last couple of hours. That signal-kidnapping little green man in Orange is having a busy morning . . .
Seriously, as the classic reported Orange problem, it seems to me that none of Orange's published "improvements" to landline broadband have really made any difference over the last 3 years to this authentication problem, which remains as intractable as ever, and a peculiarly "Orange" issue. Neither is it just the Livebox as a spare router has the same problem.
Correct, it's not the Lvebox or your line from the house to the exchange equipment.
When PPP errors are indicated, the problem lies between the exchange and the Orange routers/servers....they're just not talking to each other ..... so not a lot you can do except pester Orange
Dare I say it, loud, well no I will whisper it. Orange is still connected.
I don't use a Live Box or anything. I started off with Freeserve, who went to Wanadoo, then Orange, so I've just been passed on.
I use a Netgear wireless router and pay £22.99 to Orange, plus £20 a month to BT.
I also have a mobile phone with Orange and pay £22 a month to that, so I am paying them a decent amount of money, so I would expect better service than what I have been getting lately.

Fingers crossed, we all get to say online now.
You should've switched to the £35 a month phone plan. Unlimited Land-line calls, 600 min, 600 texts and free 8mb internet
And anyway, i just moved house and the internets been fine - apart from the connection being a bit slow and the connection set on interleave. But compaired to my old house, this is still on G.DMT instead of the ADSL2+ i used to be on.
I have just looked at the Home Ultra package for £24 a month, ish.
Does that mean, I will lose my telephone number with BT if I change to Orange.
I have never changed to anyone before, always stayed with BT.
So I have my own telephone, so what happens next?
Do I make the phone calls using the same phone and have to dial a certain mumber before I dial the number I want?
Also I have an Orange Dolphin package with my mobile phone. How will it work with this package. or is it a separate charge for the mobile?
I don't use the internet on my mobile, I just text and ring .
How long once ordered, will it take to sort it self out.
Does the live box cost money?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm not exactly a tech freak.

I've the old Home Max which also includes the second line and phone rental. I think the only difference with Ultra is the potential for higher speeds, and that the free 01, 02 and 03 calls come on the main phone not the second line (as in my case) which is optional if you register (free: online or by phone) and connect a second phone to the Livebox and in the case of Ultra then give you free international calls to 30 countries. (I've also got their Unique phone which is limited mobile models that operate through the Livebox with free calls when around the house).
That being said the main phone operates pretty much as it does on BT (you loose any paid for options but have a basic answerphone 1471/1571). Of course everything is subject to a fair use limit, in the case of "free" calls 1000 mins per month. The website is quite helpful on the basics. If you don't want second line then I think you can usually stick with your old router. I think there's £3 reduction for mobile customers if you tell them if you order. Remember the 18m minimum term though! I got the problems after 18m, but lots of people aren't so "lucky". Livebox can be a nuisance to set up particularly if you don't do it on a wired connection to the PC, but the web instructions are helpful as I recall.
I'd watch out if you have an unreliable phone line, as all service calls have to go through Orange, and Openreach (their contractor) have a nasty charging policy for anything that then isn't their responsibility on a call out and are very ready to make allegations in that regard. If exchange LLU (check on Sam knows, use a google search) I think Orange are good when it works, as you know from my experience.
Silence from Orange on the problem on this forum, but after this mornings constant connect/disconnect to the servers, the internet has been up for 1 hour since lunchtime. As something seems to sever the connection, and I doubt the exchange as I seem to get 3 months up then a week of anarchy (and what would change?), I wonder whether the backhaul might pass the Olympic site and something they are doing is disrupting the line: though I'd have thought loads of people would be affected not just sporadic users.
Couple of things I forgot:
1. the monthly rental quoted includes a small rental for the Livebox which you don't buy;
2. the mobile rental isn't affected.
I spoe too soon. Last night the net was off from 8pm to 11pm.
Then it was ok for a few hours.
My husband got up at 8am today and it has been off since.
I bet the engineers aren't working today to sort it.
This is the last straw, I'm going to apply for my MAC number.
