When i lived with my parents I was able to get over 7mbps with Orange. I moved out and into a rented house with my partner. Yes it was several miles from the exchange so it wasnt a supprise when i got a maximum of 3.4mbps. This is the bit i dont get. We have bought a house 5 minutes walk from my parents. The exchange is on the other side of a school field...its approx 0.5 miles from me and yet when i spoke to Orange to get my connection reconnected...best they could give me was 3.5mbps
first i would put your router stats on fisrt cause the line might not go the way you think it might BT had a tendency of putting extenshion on the end of there line for other places so you might say that the exchange is 0.5 mile from your house the cable might be 2 times longer even 3 times
put your stats on here and peaple could be able tohelp you!!
id love to but my broadband is not connected as yet. Orange said to me on the phone that it was unlikely to be higher than 3.5mbps. What i dont understand ios how can it be slower when im in 5-10 minutes walk from the exchange.
When i do hook my pc up and connect for first time. i will let you know. if it is lower than 3.5 i will be cancelling and staying with my iphone instead.
only way to find out as i said is buy getting your router stats ad looking at your line attentuation db it will give a indecation of how long the line is unless you see a BT engineer in the street 1 day and ask him nicly where does the line o from the exchange to your house,i did that once and he was happy to show me on his laptop, and did a line test for aswell!!!!
