Hi Im new to this site and desperate! Ive just upgraded to an Orange Livebox with broadband socket downstairs where my desktop PC is. My son has his PS3 upstairs in his bedroom and cant get connected to the Livebox (the old Siemens Router wouldnt work either, we were told the Livebox would be better). Is there any way I can extend the range of the Livebox so that he can play upstairs? Are the homeplugs any good in this situation or can I plug in my old siemens router to the livebox somehow to extend the range? Am a complete technophobe so would be very grateful for any answers to be simple enough for my poor old brain to understand!! Thanks very much

In these situations a decent solution is Home Plugs. This gives you ethernet connections via your mains circuit so avoids the wireless problem. Cost is from about £25 upwards.
Thanks for your reply. Does it matter that my sons bedroom is on a different electricity circuit to the part of the house that has the router? There is no phone socket in his room so do I just plug in the Home plug and then connect the PS3 to that with an ethernet cable? Does this look suitable www.homeplugs.co.uk/acatalog/i...o_23.html? Really appreciate the help, thanks again.

Mine are on 2 different circuits and work fine , I think it's all done over the earthing part of the circuit which should be a continuous circuit.
Those Solwise look to be OK but only have 1 ethernet port whereas the ones I have are Netgear with 4 ports each. I needed the multi-port option in my case.
And yes it really is that simple, very much plug & go.
