<Livebox Issues? ~ Livebox connected but no browsing/ping timeouts

hi,
i m based out of blackpool and have just moved into a new apartment. the landlady here has a Orange livebox connection which the people in the apartment connect using wifi from our laptops.
i am able to successfully connect using wifi after entering the security password. the problem that i am facing is whenever i start utorrent (or any bit torrent apps), the net stops working. specifically, what happens is i am able unable to browse any page and when i ping 192.168.1.1 (router config) or any website like yahoo - i get request timeouts.
weird thing is it instantly starts as soon as i start utorrent. btw, port has been forwarded for utorrent in the livebox config page and it does show up as green in the state of the app. BT due to this stupid time out prob and dns not being available, the trackers just dont connect. the downloads in the torrent do happen though but only via DHT - private trackers ususally time out.sometimes, i do get a reply on pings and thats when the connection also happens in the trackers and then the downloads start.
another thing to note is that i moved in on saturday last and everythin was workin fine on sat & sun. its when i logged on monday evening, i noticed web pages not opening until i try a couple of times. also the problem seems have to increased over the last couple of days - like on monday there were a fewer timeouts when torrent was on but last night, it was 5-6 timeouts and 1 reply and nothing worked. also, i noticed that when i shut down utorrent, it wasnt like the pings were 100% working - there were a few timeouts so i wudnt say its only confined to bit torrent though it happens more when its on.
can u plz advice how i can resolve this problem??
ps: its not a laptop problem bcz yday nite, i logged onto a different wifi network which operated on netgear and everythin worked just fine - torrents running at full speeds, browser n pings working fine.
