Been with Orange from the days of wanadoo, and i got there free broadband about 3 years ago with my phone.
Unfortunatly ever since i have always had an intermittent connection..ex on for a day or to then off for several days..the bloody thing just seems to come and go as it pleases.
i am using a wired connection on the old inventel live box,and despite numerous contact with tech support they have never been able to sort the problem..always running line tests etc etc but the problem keeps occouring.
I am quite a bit away from my local exchange 3.5km and can only get a maximum download speed of 0.5mbps .
any help greatly appreciated,i am thinking of changing isp provider but really dont want to take the chance on a contract if this problem is gonna persist

please post the following information
1. ask Orange are you LLU or ipstream
2. speed Orange say you are provisioned on (after any speed regrades)
3. speed test results from www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk
4. information from the BTW availablity checker
al be able to tell you what you need to do

ok tech guy here we go ,i spoke to Orange tech support this morning i am currently on ip stream, however they were unable to give me a speed provision after any regrades.(she seemed a little confused when i asked this )
bbmax results are as follows
d/load speeds 796kbps
up/load speed 219kbps
btw availability checker results are 512kbps
adsl max rate 500kbps or greater
adsl2+ max rate of 500kbps or greater
From the data you've posted already you're either provisioned on a fixed 500kbps connection or your IP Profile is stuck at 500kbps if the latter it will require Orange to force BT to manually reset it.
If it's the former then the provision is at 500kbps because of the distance and/or line problems connecting to your local exchange.
Can you post your router stats or do you know what attenuation figure is shown ?
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 3.4
Attenuation (dB) : 59.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 1184
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 1152 288
You're on a fixed 1meg connection probably because of the distance from the exchange. But with an SNRM of only 3.4dB you must get many disconnections especially without Interleave on. Get Orange to increase your Target SNR to 6dB.

orange cant just play with noise margins etc
and also borednow is correct it looks like you are provision on 1 meg however BT say the most you can get is 0.5meg so if you are getting disconnects its due to the line speed to high
