Ive done a few tests on www.speedtest.BT and the results show
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 576(DOWN-STREAM),288 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 500kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 460 kbps
Same problems as myself, They just dont care, lie after lie, just to fob you off and take more money when you phone in again, why do we put up with this,ORANGE must be the worst supplier in the UK, slow speeds and lies, all the time, I know how you feel and how many more thousands must feel the same, cant Offcom do soething like fine them 200 million or something, they deserve it.
Good luck with your quest! me I am off to PlusNet, got to do something.

Can you post the router stats please ?
It possible that you could have had a noise problem and the IP Profile has not reset afterwards.

Yes you have a very noisy line and strangely for an IPStream connection you're not on Interleave which won't help.
If you have an NTE5 main BT socket (lower part of frontplate unscrews and there's a test socket inside bottom right) plu the router into that and then do both test again, BT speedtester and the router stats.
EDIT : just noticed that you are ona 0.5meg fixed connection for some reason. That's unusual for an attenuation of 13dB, normally it's used for difficult lines >60dB ????????

why would i be on a 0.5 meg fixed line i pay for up to 8 meg i did a test in july that showed results of 6.8 meg when i ring Orange they say theres nothing wrong with the line however i dont think the guy knows anything and like other people have quoted its like they are reading from a script.
my house has a realy old type BT socket not the nte5 type however im going to remove the faceplate and make sure everythings connected tight and then disconnect my Sky box and phone and see what happens thanks for the advice and ill post the stats later
Hi Waynec sorry for bumping in but i've got the same problem - I think.

How'd you work that out?
I'm in a similar position and think I'm being capped - it should be an OK line but cant figure it out. - changed filters, connected to main BT plate, switched off/unplugged every other telecom device

I love the interjection here of the respose teams, " I think I can help " just had a letter this morning, apologising for the POOR SERVICE as its NOT WHAT WE EXPECT OUR CUSTOMERS TO RECIEVE, how is that helping? all that is doing is putting into writing what we already know, the way to help is to resolve the problem, QUICKLY and stop PUTTING US OFF WITH DELAY TACTICS, hows that for customer service.

I have a slow internet and i phone them probably 5 -6 times a week. 10 times in 5 months is not enough to make them fix it you need to keep at them like there's no tomorrow.
