Ok here is the problem. Im running Windows 7 retail on my desktop. It has been running fine with the internet for some time now but over the last month it keeps dropping the internet connection. At the start of the problem i reset the livebox and i was back on. Now im constantly having to reset my livebox for it to work. I have no problem with my Xbox360 wired connection on xbox live either! I also connect wirelessly using windows xp on my laptop which always works fine, and also from my nokia n95 which too works fine.
So i updated the network driver for my desktop which made no difference. Funny thing is, it gives me a DHCP address and by doing a ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew it gives me new addresses each time. Also i can browse to 192.168.1.1 and it says im connected to the internet.
Too make things complicated, ive bought a new motherboard so i cannot rule out that my network card on it is malfunctioning. I will try using the other network point on the livebox (currently connected to my xbox which never fails to see if this is the case and try a different cable) but do you think my livebox is at fault on my network card? might need to shell out for a network card.
Just to update all you helpful people on here, it turns out it wasnt the liebox or the motherboard.....it was Windows 7 which has got problem with writing Reatek LAN drivers!!
Reverted back to an older version, disabled the bonjour service and now everything is fine
