As with so many things in life, technology moves on and its the same with wireless routers. Unfortunately most of us are unaware of the availability of better wireless routers. Basically there are 7 different types.
Firstly it depends on what type of broadband you have, cable or telephone.
Mine comes down the phone line, hence I use a router based on this.
Once you've got the right type, there are 5 routers to choose from.
Every router uses 802.11 technology but this number is then followed by a letter. ie. 802.11b/802.11g/802.11g+/802.11n/802.11n1. The letter is the important bit. The letter signifies the range and speed you will get. b has a range of just 1 metre! g same room, g+ all downstairs, n the whole house, n1 down to the bottom of the garden! The connection and download speed you get also varies enormously, b is 20kb per second, g and g+ up to 60kb per second, n and n1 up to 300 kb per second. I use an n router and get a connection speed of 150kb per second and download songs at 250kb per second. I used to use a g rated wireless router which lived behind the television. The pc is upstairs in the spare room. The connection used to be rubbish, intermittent connection, slow down and up speeds, I blamed my internet service provider, where in actual fact it was the router all along, or should I say it was because my pc was out of range for the router, but this was what I was sold so I knew no better. Since then I have told all my friends and family to do the same and buy better routers, I got my n rated router from PC World for £80 but I'm sure there are better deals out there, just make sure you get the right type ie cable or telephone and also get the usb dongle to match the router.
This stinks of a spam post that's gonna be followed up with some dodgy link.
802.11n has been available in various draft/final forms for years. "Basically there are 7 different types..... there are 5 routers to choose from..... I'm sure there are better deals out there". And I'm sure a link to sell you those will follow in a day or two....
