Since connecting using the livebox wirelessly I can only get a speed of 54.0mbps as opposed to 100.0mbps using the ethernet connection.I have tried configuring my wireless adapter to connect at 100mbps but now it reverts to 54 (but managed 100 yesterday for about 2 hours!).What speed is everyone else getting using livebox on a wireless connection?Any advice how I can accelerate my connection speed back up to 100mbps and keep it there?Cheers.
wireless has various versions, g being 54mbit/s
you cannot go faster with the livebox. New faster wireless is emerging (nimo) but that would need a completely new livebox which hasn't been released.
You mean MIMO, Multiple Input Multiple Output, and also the 802.11n routers which try to follow the draft of the standard which was a short while back sent back to the drawing board. Problem with "n" or pre-n as some like to call it is it's like the plague for "g" systems, takes up a much wider chunk of the spectrum and is known to actively interfere with them.
2 examples.
A journalist being given a pre-n router found it worked great and was fast but later discovered it knocked out ALL his neighbours wireless networks for the duration.
"n" routers use such a wide band that it's impossible for their signal to not overlap with channel 6+7 no matter what channel they're put on.
I'm sure this wouldn't have quite as big an effect as you may take from this but it's still somewhat worrying with so many people using wireless these days.
