Does anyone know if there is a problem with the Orange server this evening... Outlook Express was ok for me all day but suddenly from around 6pm this evening I can send mail but not receive it... just adiaogue box with the following when I check my inbox.
The host 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Yes, I have lost my email facility. Was fine earlier in the day. I can get at my emails from the Orange site but when I try using Windows Mail I get the same error code as you are experiencing.

I guess this is just the same level of customer service/incompetence they usually provide
Actually, I just checked the Orange website, and they are recommending a different setting for the SMTP server as well:
smtp.orangehome.co.uk
instead of smtp.wanadoo.co.uk as I currently have. Maybe it might be a good idea to change this now as well

Thanks for that. Have just changed my SMTP setting also and have tested it and it seems to work O.K.
I am staggered that Orange would change the configuration without advising customers. There must be tens of thousands of Orange email users who will not now be able to access their emails and Orange's help desk will be inundated with calls - serves them right! Thanks to everyone who posted the solution on here.
I think that they have had problems managing (everything) oops their servers recently and it may well be that they have canned the Wanadoo server a part of the solution. Not sure if things are now working well or not, the flow of mails still appears to be poor and erratic.
Technical skills still appear to be endangered at Orange!
I have still been able to use the Freeserve server addresses but may need to revisit that if I continue to obtain (limited) service from Orange rather than a real ISP.

yep change your pop3 and smtp settings form wanadoo.co.uk, to orangehome.co.uk.
ive been dikkin around with the account settings for 2 days now

I've had an identical problem with pop.orange.net, since about 2pm yesterday (Friday). The same solution works, changing to pop.orangehome.co.uk. Likewise, I had no information from Orange about this change (assuming it was planned, and isn't some side effect of Orange's problems earlier last week). Glad to find a solution here!
As I said earlier, I think we can be certain that it was a panic move to restore services that have been off the pace since the 28th August for some of us.
At last it appears to be struggling back to correct operation.

I've been having the same problem as everyone else too and am thankful for finding the solution on here BUT I can't change my POP3 server name , or SMTP either.. both boxes are greyed out (with pop.wanadoo.co.uk entered).
