We have just logged on and found out that Orange have deleted our email account. This email account has been used regularly for 10 years and we have never had a problem. I have spoken to the tech support team and they have told me that after 1 year of the account being inactive they have deleted it. I have told them that the account has been used but they still have gone ahead and deleted it anyway. We have not even been told by Orange that this was going to happen.
Was this account associated with a broadband or anytime dialup connection?
If it's not and you didn't dialup to reset the counter or retrieve the account in the period between deactivation and deletion then it's gone and there's not a great deal you can do about it.
It's always been like this and recently they even extended the time an account remains before being deactivated.
No, i reactivated the account recently and we where recieving the emails up until last night with no problem. I have also used the dial up service recently to stop the clock. However they claim that we have not used the account in a year!!!

I have a similar problem except I had a dial up account but was not using it to access my email. I was using broadband to access my email account and the internet. My accounts dept informed me that I was duplicating payments by paying for both when I was actually using only broadband. I telephoned the Orange billing dept to cancel my suscribtion. The next day I could not access my email. How ever I am at a loss here. I opened my email account with freeserve almost 10 years ago and this was a freestanding account. I used to access it on pay as you go serivce. Around 3 years I suscribed to the Dail up account. When they stop the dial up service, the Email account that was freestanding should not have been deleted. Does any onre know if the Orange servers have a back up system. They must. Or else how do goverment agencies retrieve emails for crinal trials. Can any one with @Insider knowledge assist??
How come one does not get this advice from Orange.? I have spent alomst 4 hours speaking with different deparments with their CS and Tech service. All I get told , is Sir we are sorry your account has been deleted from our system
No, just write a polite letter to Orange requesting that under the Data Protection Act, they release to you the emails for the relevant email address and the relevant dates that you require.
No doubt they'll quibble, if they do then tell them you'll apply for a court order. That normally works with awkward companies.
There are plenty of references on the web re. release of information under the Data Protection Act......Consumer Action Group site for one.

Hi All
I'm new here and for the last five days I have not been able to receive any emails from my .freeserve.co.uk email address. Tried everything under the sun but no success. I thought it might be an Orange server problem (My ISP is talktalk) but now having read this thread I'm not so sure. Am I right in thinking that as I do not use Orange for anything except retrieving my emails that they might have just cut me loose? Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks.
My freeserve e mail also decided to vanish at weekend. It was working fine and got mail friday evening.I checked on saturday and up flashed username/password screen so i went to Orange site to reactivate like i have always done,it says e mail/password not recognised.
I contacted cust support who advised to contact the 50p a min narrowband tech support!!(No thanks)
After having more problems this year than ever before(not connecting, freezing, disconnecting.slooow)have requested a MAC code and going to swap to someone who will actually provide me with what i pay them to.
As i type this message keeps freezing and cannot find server page keeps coming up
If you think your account has gone then first try to access it through the email option on the Orange page. If that doesn't work try and retrieve the account. If that's gone then it's either to get in touch with support but to be honest if it's got to the point where the account has expired and been deleted there's little you can do.
Also once non-orangehome accounts get deleted there is no way of getting them back and they can't be re-registered for as you only get orangehome addresses now.
I have just stumbled on this forum and thought I would add my tail of woe to the list of people who seem to have had E-Mail accounts deleted by Orange despite them being in regular use for year and years.
My wife had an fset.co.uk account from years gone by which she uses almost daily. On occasion, because it was linked to a dial-up account at the time of creation, the mail account would be suspended due to a lack of use of the dial-up element (who the hell uses dial-up over the past few years.!)
Anyway we would go onto the Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange website and retrieve the account. This had worked fine until Monday 13th August. On trying to access the mail account, my wife got "invalid username or password" - tried the retrieval option, but was unable to find the account - mail had been sent to/from the account on the Sunday before.!
I now had the thankless task of trying to contact Orange Technical Support (a joke title surely ?) and explain to them what my problem was (How many techincal support people with Indian accents and English names do Orange have - I spoke to a Kevin, Clifford, Robert and others all who clearly struggled to understand what I was saying.!!)
Having been passed from Pillar to post for 4 evenings and talking to at least 7 or 8 different people, I have been told that the account has been deleted for SECURITY reasons and there is nothing anyone can do to retrieve it. A stern letter of complaint will be sent to Orange in the next couple days asking how this situation can have arisen - I cannot believe E-Mail profiles and data are not backed up in some shape or form prior to deletion.
I may well take up the suggestion posted here to request Orange return my mails in the interests of data protection.
I will post again with any response I get from the Orange Customoer Care people....
I was receiving "Freeserve" email as recently as 23:38 last night (yes, that tells you how long I've been with them!! Freeserve>Wanadoo>Orange)
This morning my account has been deleted (so I discovered from this website!!)
Typical of Orange - they just don't know anything about good customer service.
I've been signing on every day for years, and now my account is gone!! I've was signing in through out broadband account, which is different to my email "domain" by one digit - and as we migrated to Sky Broadband last week, my wife will now doubt lose her Freeserve email in 200+ days!
I am registered with many organisations, including government bodies, and I'm sure many will not let me change email address without them sending a confirmation email to the old address - which I won't be able to access!
I'm sure they'll say they posted a notice on their website about this - but are Orange users obliged to trawl every page of the Orange website, every day, in order to do business with them?
What would be difficult about sending an explanatory email to everyone on their "deletion list" giving them notice of what is about to happen?
As you can no doubt tell, I am fuming about this - Freeserve and to a lesser extent, Wanadoo were pretty good ISP's - Orange stink!!!
What does anyone think about campaigning with BBC Watchdog again?
Mr Bloody Angry!!!
