Being a newbie to forums it is good to see that other people are having the same problems accross the country with one company in question "ORANGE/WANADOO".
As so many other customers of Orange in the last few months I have been getting an intermitant fault on my BB link.Originaly I thought it was my Linksys router (which had/has worked faultlessly for 18 months)so I started to use the Livebox which I cannot get to work Wireless unless I am standing 2ft away with my laptop. I have been with Wanadoo since jan 05 with no a single problem , never had to ring them for anything , Orange took over , got livebox and free freee freeeeeee broadband and now I have problem after problem. At least 4 line test , 1 BT engineer call out to install their Master-Microfilter socket and check the line and guess what--- no one has ever found the fault.
The fault happens at peak times in the day and especially at weekends, I can be using to net for hours then the link will drop off , come back , drop off. This evening it has droped off 7 times. I am now using a new netgear DG834PN (less than 5 mins to config not like livebox that can take ages)router so I can use the extended range but still getting drop offs.I have disconnected all phones off the slaves, re-connected filters phones one by one etc etc.The router is pluged into the master socket with no other phone attatched. When I ring Orange, if I speak to someone in the UK and explain what I have done ie verification that it is not the router as it happens on 3 mfrs they talk to me and do line tests that come back as clear , if I get the "OTHER" call centre they go through some sort of ritual that must involve the LIVEBOX or they will not talk as they are not trained in other peoples equipment , do they not realise that routers all perform the same function!!!!!!
In the last two days I have found that I can reset the ADSL link by either picking up a phone and then putting it down or ringing in on my mobile????????Can anyone explain that as Orange and BT have not got a clue and guess what ,it happens with all Three routers , so my question to anyone that reads this is , does this sound like a router problem or a line problem. I also know that I am just over 3300 meters for the BT exchange and have a 48d line with a 1 Mb connection(this is all I can get and BT's main training collage is just down the road)
Also I would like to know if you change ISP do drop outs just disapear or is it just worth sticking it out with Dolphin Canary Rackoon we dont know what we are doing Orange
