My son started to "play" with my livebox last weekend. He is a techy guy and he was trying to get the internet on his 'phone via my livebox by inputting the WEP code into his 'phone. At one stage he was in the livebox configurator and I reckon he's screwed something up.
There are couple of sites that I can't get on since he has gone back home (don't they always mess up and then go home ). I believe them to be perfectly innocous sites. www.precise-solutions.co.uk is one. I have checked that they are not specifically mentioned in IE>tools>options>privacy>web sites. Could it be a problem with the firewall setting in the livebox. I have switched off the firewall in the livebox but still can't get on to the sites. I have a WiFi laptop working off the livebox & I can't get to the sites from that either, that's why I think it's the livebox.
Can anyone help me to get to these sites please ?
that doesnt sound like its the fault of the livebox
can you ping these sites?
Sorry but while I've seen this done I've forgotten how to do it. Could you help please ? Do I type something in IE's address bar ?
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
EDIT: I have now pinged the one site and it seems to work O.K. now. The other www.yourfilehost.com will not ping. I get a time out message and 4 packets sent and 4 packets lost (100% loss)
Would like to know what I am doing when I ping a site !!!
the ping command simply is a very basic request (it's actually sending the alpabet if you look into it with a packet sniffer) which checks if there is a connection between 2 computers
if you can ping it there is no physical problem
yourfilehost works fine for me, perhaps you could try again now
Known as powercycling and it fixes so many more things than you'd expect it to.
If you ever saw "The IT Crowd" then their catchphrase "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" is pretty apt as it helps solve numerous minor or temporary problems.
Thanks Elhana. The other day I had no reception on my 'phone and my Son told me to switch off & switch on again and I then got a full house. I never switch my 'phone off but he says that you should now and again.
You learn something every day. Many thanks - David
